decided to post this since i haven’t seen one yet… good luck to everyone!
We are only 2 months away, but it’s going to feel like an eternity. Just wish I wasn’t so anxious about decisions coming out.
Pray
@tina23 Haha, I always throw in a little “please allow me to get into ND” into my daily prayer.
One bit of advice or forewarning. Last year notre dame mailed rd admissions decisions and something like 7 days from when they were mailed until d got her acceptance letter. D is now a freshman at nd. The waiting was agonizing. Good luck to everyone
@Wje9164be I’m sure they still mail out something if you have been accepted, but ND is using a portal this year for that very reason. Last year, they got tons of calls about students not receiving letters when others were, so they are putting it all online so we can all have equal access.
@IvyHopeful98 I never got portal information from Notre Dame
@DAVE437 I don’t think they have released the portal information for Regular Decision applicants yet. REA applicants had a portal, and I also read about this on the ndsmcobserver.com (I think), if you were wondering how I knew this.
@IvyHopeful98 @DAVE437 I applied REA and got in- we received an email on 12/7 giving us portal info and then on 12/14 at about 6PM CST we got an email saying that decisions had been released. If you got in, you received a packet in the mail with your formal acceptance letter and other info. If you didn’t get in, you didn’t get anything in the mail. I hope that helps!
@ChocolateSprinkl Only 1 week before? That’s pretty late, considering I have a portal for every school I applied to already, other than Wake Forest (which I’m not even sure if they have a portal). Guess we shouldn’t be expecting a portal until late February at the earliest, probably more like early-mid March.
Well if any of you are like me, you’re probably getting anxious about decisions, despite the fact that we most likely have a month and a half to go until decisions are posted. I’m someone who likes to talk (in this case type) to get rid of stress, so I figure maybe we could all just discuss here and hopefully get our worries out, haha. I’ll start with my own model, and feel free to either discuss my information, or post your own, and I’ll definitely respond. Without further ado:
*Note, I’m reading over my post, and I think it may come off as if I’m asking for chances, which is not what I’m doing, nor do I want chances. Just want to provoke discussion
What region am I in?: Mid-Atlantic. I’m pretty sure we’ve gotten more snow that ND so far this year, which is definitely abnormal for us.
Any ties to ND?: None whatsoever. One parent went to state university, other didn’t go to college.
How long have I known/thought about applying to Notre Dame?: About 9 months. Found Notre Dame when searching for some of the best Catholic/Christian universities online. I visited a few months later, and have been in love ever since. It’s definitely by first choice school, if you couldn’t already tell that based on the amount of time I spend in this sub-forum.
Favorite aspect about ND?: The brotherhood/camaraderie between all the students. I saw it when I visited campus, and I’ve never seen anything quite like it.
What degree am I pursuing?: Either finance or economics. If i get in and get pre-approved to Mendoza, I’ll chase finance. If i get in but denied pre-approval to Mendoza, I’ll try to major in Economics from A&L.
What am I most worried about on my app?: SAT score for sure. Sitting at a 1440, which obviously isn’t awful, but I’d prefer to be higher.
Most confident about on my app?: I think my EC’s were pretty solid. I sure hope the admissions officers think they make up for my SAT score, otherwise the end of March might suck.
Other schools I applied to: Boston College, Penn, Georgetown, Villanova, Wake Forest, and Northeastern
Anything else?: I bought way too much clothing for a school I might not even get into, haha. I hope that doesn’t end up being a huge mistake. Also, if Notre Dame keeps to trying to have a class of 2000 students, there might not be too many spots left, even though RD decisions haven’t been made. They accepted 1610 REA, so if they bring in 2/3 of those students like they did last year, that’s only 1000 spots left.
Notre Dame is my number one choice and it is the only place I really want to be but I’m pretty sure that I’ll be rejected. My SAT is way too low. Now I really need to come up with a second choice but I don’t know…
@Fiona1997 I know it’s posted somewhere, but what is your SAT? And I know I complained about mine as well, but it is important to remember SAT isn’t everything. You have a great story and passion, which might help admissions officers overlook whatever your SAT was.
@IvyHopeful98 800 on Math and only 530 on reading…
@Fiona1997 Well, things definitely could be worse. Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t you also not from America? i’m sure they would understand. And considering I was born here but only scored a 640 on reading, I’m sure you’ll be fine.
1580 but gpa isnt that good. GG boys
@IvyHopeful98 Yes English is my second language. It doesn’t make sense to me because I have no problem understanding English and I actually have all A’s in Honors English…
@XAtlas Define “isn’t that good” haha. I just know too many kids who think 1 B is awful, when it obviously isn’t. Either way, that ridiculous SAT score will probably even it out, if it’s as bad as you think it is. The game isn’t over, so I’ll give you a GL
@Fiona1997 While English isn’t my second language, I struggled to understand why I didn’t perform too well myself considering that I’ve gotten A’s in honors and AP English courses. I think the big difference is that the SAT is out to trick you, trying to lure you into picking answers you had to infer to get to, or by using second meanings of words. Your honors classes likely aren’t doing this. So while I’m confident that I understand English fine, and you seem confident in the same regard, the SAT doesn’t truly reflect one’s English ability (and sometimes math ability) in my personal opinion.
@IvyHopeful98 basically just out of 10% rank wise and i get multiple B’s
@XAtlas I mean, that’s not awful. I definitely think your SAT will help them overlook any negative of your GPA, but that’s just speculation from a fellow senior. How competitive is your school? I’m not sure if you’re aware, but ND re-scales/re-ranks GPA to be something they can compare among all students. For example, if you go to a very competitive school and are at the 15th percentile, but would be top 1% at another school, they don’t want to penalize you for going to a competitive school (or so they claim).
