btw I thought I didn’t pass the prescreening round for USC but then found out that BM composition actually doesn’t require an audition (kinda curious why since most music majors at Thornton require one)
Idk when my msm audition is but I know I have one. I’m a pre-college student there so didn’t need to do prescreen.

My mezzo daughter received confirmation that she passed the prescreen for Eastman. Awaiting date of audition now.

I’m sorry - I guess I can’t pm as I don’t have enough posts. My son has confirmed auditions for Viola Performance at Shepherd School of Music (Rice) and Cleveland Institute of Music. Still waiting to hear on Northwestern (Bienen) although they said they were hoping to send notifications out last week, I guess we have to wait now as they’re closed for the holidays. He only applied to these three and one in Canada. It’s nice to find other people going through this journey - I had no idea how crazy it might be!

Just waiting on results from one last prescreen (and the date for Jacobs), and then we will be able to see the full picture. I’d really hoped it would be today, but alas…
UCLA date 1/25- same day as UC Irvine.
Does anyone have any insight on when Bienen results can be expected? Also Carnegie Mellon? Coordinating travel is getting to be a real challenge.
@coloraturagirl I believe that Carnegie Mellon auditions will be January 25th and 26th and February 14th. Bienen auditions should be the week of February 16th.
@studentcomposer1 many composition programs, including some top schools, don’t require an instrumental audition for composition applicants. It is not even necessary to play an instrument to be a talented composer
Interviews for composition range from a nice informal chat to a grilling about your process and knowledge of history to an overnight assignment with a panel interview to no interview at all.
It is kind of nice to be on campus for the interview, but not essential. Hope you can go!

@coloraturagirl @MezzoDadbynight - We’re waiting on Carnegie Mellon, too. We’re hoping to schedule it the same weekend as CCM so we can drive between the two and save money on plane fares. But I’m getting nervous about having to wait until after the holiday to book that ticket.
Anyone else here still waiting for Eastman? We’re a little puzzled that my D has heard nothing since it sounds like most people got their prescreening decisions yesterday (or earlier) and we are not sure what to do. No one answers the phone there today – wondering if emailing an admissions counselor is too aggressive. My D thinks maybe we should wait till January, but that is cutting it awfully close to get affordable flights. Any thoughts?
Thanks all- I have the dates on my calendar but wanted to get an idea of when prescreen results will be out. At this point it must be early January.
For CMU we will do the regional date in LA of February 7, unless she doesn’t get an invite. If she doesn’t do that audition, then that frees up a weekend for Vanderbilt if she gets invited there. At the moment, we would have to do Eastman on a Friday (they want her there 9am to 8pm!) and try to get to Vandy on a Saturday (if she gets asked) and then back to NEC on a Sunday. Work for the month of February is going to be a challenge…thank goodnes for skype.
Also- Vandy wants students there for a weekend and I would like her to have that experience so that may have to be a separate trip. It’s so hard to watch the time go by and the flights go up in price.
For us, Northwestern will be its own trip in the middle of the week if she gets an invite.

@khill87 agreed about the flights. Most are cross country for us and Boston was the cheapest because we booked early thanks to the prescreen waiver. The flight that has cost me the most is Boston to Cincinnati- not a common route and Cincinnati is a smaller airport. I keep telling myself that the expense will pay off in the end ??

@khill87 we’re also dying to hear from Eastman. It seems as if everyone else got emails a long time ago and then more people yesterday. A positive email would make a great Christmas surprise.
