2020 Stanford Online High School Admissions Pool

ACCEPTED!!! thx for all of your support.

Congratulations!

My daughter was accepted full time too!

Hi, I was accepted in R1 as a full-time freshman, but right now I’m conflicted as I don’t know whether SOHS is the perfect fit, since it’s an online school. How rigorous is the curriculum? I’m an IB student right now and I want to know whether I could manage the workload that SOHS offers.

I was also wondering if anyone else had their admission as contingent , as it looked a bit weird for me.

Hello. I, myself, was admitted as a single-course applicant, but I am also unsure of what the course load is… if any one else knows, that information would be much appreciated.
As for you “contingent” question, that was nowhere on my decision letter. Where did it say that? — In mine, it said " The outcome of your application is Full Admission", so maybe that is where it said that… Otherwise, I do not know.
The deadline to accept is the 31st which is why I am a little anxious about it as it does seem like kind of a stretch to do it on top of another school-type thing…

In my letter, after the information and stuff, it said please note “your offer of admission is contingent upon your successful completion of the current academic year”, but now I’m pretty sure it only goes for some students, not all. But thank you.

Congratulations!
My daughter was accepted full time as well. I am wondering if you have received a parent e mail with enrollment package . ( I have not received one as of today )

Congarts to her! That’s a little weird, because we have received it yesterday and are already almost done with the enrollment process.

Thank you. I will contact admission office tomorrow.

I was also wondering if anyone knows whether you have to re-apply every year, or like when you want to change from for example a part-time enrollment to full-time.

You do not have to reapply every year or to change enrollment, but you do if you decline the offer of admission right now…

EDIT: as many of the students who have been accepted into OHS for R1, I have finished the enrollment process. With this (albeit minimal) experience, I would love to assist in answering any questions that come up later down the line, but I also invite this thread to be used for R2 when those decisions come out in Late April. Good luck to everyone!

Congratulations! I really appreciate sharing your details. I would like to get feedback from anyone who is also applying/applied for the 2020 school year. I submitted my application on 3/29 for round 2.

Below are my details:

I took ISEE and these are my percentile ranks Verbal Reasoning 99, Reading Comprehension 98, Quantitative Reasoning 96, Mathematics Achievement 92

  • Essays - I barely had a week to work on but I think it came out well
  • Not applying for financial aid
  • Applying for the “2/3” course option
  • Gender: male
  • Asian
  • decent extracurriculars (LD speech & debate, quiz bowl, chess, geo bee)
  • Current school: Rigorous Private school
  • John Hopkin’s CTY- SET, Duke TIP enrollment. Took SAT last summer to be eligible for SET, 760 in math
  • Recommendation (I felt were strong), though I only submitted two as opposed to the optional 3… both teachers
Looking forward to hearing about your experience.

Hi @kingkaps your ISEE scores are about the same as mine when I was admitted and are very strong. I also put down Lincoln-Douglas debate on my application and I also see that your extracurriculars are varied and strong. Also, I only submitted 2. I was able to read both and I was very happy with them–2 strong ones were enough for me. Other than that, the CTY/TIP enrollment will help significantly. Personally, I would be quite surprised if you do not get in. When I was reflecting on my own application after I got in, I would definitely say that the essays and letters of recommendation were ultimately the reason why I got in as opposed to not, but you definitely have a strong foundation so if you are pretty sure that those were strong, you have a great chance! Good luck!!!

Thanks @hawaiisummers. my debate coach sent his recommendation (3rd) as well. He shared it with me and it was very strong. not sure if the acceptance rate in R2 and R1 are the same.

Congratulations to everyone who got in! I would also like feedback from people in R1 and R2. I applied for R2 on 3/13 (only later did I realize they extended the deadline to 3/29). I am applying to get into single course enrollment for my sophomore year. Asian, Female. I would love to hear from you all!

-I took the SAT in 8th grade and got 99th percentile in Math (800) and 97th and 96th percentiles (710) in English.
-I feel like my essays turned out pretty nice and they describe me really well. I talked about how I was inspired to pursue a certain career path due to a life-changing event from when I was 9 and I’m still going for it to this day.
-No FA
-Applying for single course enrollment in science
-Johns Hopkins CTY enrollment
-Current school: Local public school (was allowed special permissions to take higher level classes in middle and high school and I was the only one in my grade to do so).
-Won national science competition (individual), captain of school science team (placed)
-Used to do competitive math
-Composed and performed fusion pieces of western and Hindustani classical music, advanced level pianist and hindustani classical singer
-Black belt, badminton
-Decent clubs
-I’m not sure how my STEM recommendation went (didn’t send me a copy) but my humanities one went well, since he verbally told me what he wrote (no optional 3rd)
-Feeling confident in my writing samples
-No video essay since I thought I was crunched for time

I feel like I might have put too many extracurriculars (I filled up all 10 :|, interested in many things, mostly focused in one or two). Could this work against me?

Hey @rotationsPM. Obviously, test scores are great and above the median of those who were accepted. I don’t necessarily want to generalize, but from what I have heard in the short month since I got my own decision, your stats are quite impressive even for a school as selective as Stanford OHS. As for extracurriculars, I had also filled up all 10 spots provided, so I would not worry about that hurting your chances too much. Good luck!

Thank you for the feedback @hawaiisummers!

Also, @hawaiisummers the course load (according to an admissions info session) is 6-8 hours for middle schoolers and 8-10 hours for high schoolers per course (including time spent in the virtual classroom).

Welp, just wanted to drop by and inform everybody that decisions for R2 will be available on the 24th of April 2020, 12 noon PST. Good luck everybody!
