Good luck @An0nym0usUser and @Birdiebunch! Hopefully, 3/5 will be a day full of acceptances for you both.
@An0nym0usUser most of the rejections/waitlists on this thread were for applicants applying in Round 2, with myself included in that pile. Last year, there were two rounds for applications at SOHS: Round 1 (priority) where your application deadline was in January and Round 2 (non-priority) where your application deadline was in March. Most of the seats would fill up with R1 applicants and the leftover space would squeeze a few of the R2 applicants in.
This year, although I’m not applying to SOHS, I’ve noticed that they’ve removed R2, and now just have one single deadline for all applicants (which I believe was the 13th of January, right?).
Yes, just one deadline 1/13/21 this year. No R1 or R2. We didn’t have the Fall 2020 transcripts available until the end of January. OHS sent a reminder to ask for what was still missing.
It seems the decisions come out a bit earlier this year than usual, right? It would be interesting to see how the pandemic has impacted everything. Colleges are getting more applicants this year than ever. How many students would like to have a more quality online learning such as SOHS vs how many have felt fatigued about online learning?
Yes, good luck to all!
I forgot to say, I’ll be a 9th grader in the fall. I really hope I get in and I really hope both of your kids get in. How good were their main essays? I think that tells the admissions officers who they are and it probably has a decent impact however it doesn’t completely determine the outcome.
I think their essays have shown their personal qualities and good fit to be part of OHS. Fingers crossed.
Good luck to you today!
Any idea of the time are the decisions supposed to be released?

I would think they would come out in the next few hours. Where are you located?

I assumed they would have come out by now but I guess not. I’m in Pacific time and in the email, they noted that the decision would be released in the afternoon PST which is ending soon. My guess is it would be released at 5 or in an hour. We may know in ten minutes from now!
Does anyone get straight denied? Or, everyone waitlisted?
I got accepted! It was a pleasant surprise for me (since I’m studying for finals rn) :]
Congrats! Did u enroll as full-time, part-time, or single course?
I applied single course, but I got accepted Full Admission!

Both of my kids got accepted full time! Congratulations to all who also got the acceptance!
I got denied. I knew I would, but it still hurts a lot. I think most other people got waitlisted though.
My son was rejected also. I know it’s difficult, but don’t let it get you down. I know how intelligent and well rounded my son is. In fact maybe that was his downfall… academics are not everything to him. He’s a straight A+ student in advanced classes at a gifted school, but he’d rather be shooting hoops with his friends than doing anything else. He’ll be ok and so will you! I told him to look on the bright side… at 13 he can now tell his friends he got his first college rejection letter lol.
Did you guys who got accepted do the video essay or interview? I feel like one of the biggest downfalls in my app was that I didn’t do the video essay or the interview and so they couldn’t get to know me as well.
My son did the interview (we had to do it as a family), and quite honestly it was a joke. There were technical issues and when things finally worked, the interviewer acted a bit annoyed. She didn’t really ask any deep, quality questions and it was very short. We were disappointed. That’s honestly the only part of my son’s application that I thought was weak. He scored 91% on the ssat, has straight A+ in a gifted school (he’s taking advanced classes including honors geometry in 7th grade). He had 3 really great recommendations. I thought his essays were really strong. We live in a very small town without many opportunities for academic clubs or competitions, and athletic offerings aren’t great either. But he does every local sport that he can, is in Boy Scouts, and volunteers a lot. I’m not sure what he could have improved, maybe his SSAT was too low? Or maybe he needs extracurriculars that stand out? There just aren’t many opportunities here - which is why he applied in the first place. Oh, he found out today that he qualified for Mensa! Silly perhaps, but he’s excited. Anyhow, I told him he doesn’t need Stanford to succeed. His dad went to a tiny rural MO high school, became an engineer, and has an MBA from Harvard. Anything is possible!
Hm. Maybe they didn’t think your son could improve a lot at Stanford OHS. My daughter’s a current 7th grader, and she skipped a grade, but they still denied her. She’s really upset. She now keeps saying ‘Dumb ____(her name). Idiot. Why’d I think I’d get in?’ She’s being harsh on herself because she now thinks she’s the biggest idiot. She got the 61st percentile on the SSAT, but she was really sick when she took it. She didn’t include that, but she still didn’t get in. Tell your son that he seems like a really great person, and that there are plenty of other places that he could be happy in!

I got accepted but we didn’t get financial aid so I may not be able to attend, but hopefully, I will. For those of you that didn’t get accepted, maybe you can try again next year! I really hope you get in next time.
Thank you. He’s very resilient. I think I’m more disappointed than him lol. He dreams of going to MIT. But I know the chances of that are going to be pretty low if he goes to our small local public high school. But… today was a good lesson in how to handle disappointment. I pray your daughter is ok. Her passion will help her succeed wherever she goes!
