I am wrapping stocking stuffers right now and have to say, I think I have some great stuff! Gift cards sure, but actually stuff!
One fun thing I got for my 29 year old son who is TOUGH to fill his stocking , is an Ohio State Parks Guidebook. He and his wife love to hike and visit parks - the guide shares the features at all 185 (?) parks and then a sticker to apply
Once you’ve visited! Glove compartment size.
I got a Groupon email so I bought two things that are either going to be a hit or a flop, for two people who have everything and buy themselves anything they want.
For my brother, a 15 mile drive in a Lamborghini or Porsche (he owns a Porsche so I think he’ll pick the Lamborghini). It looks like it is in a line of cars, so not as fast as he’d like, but we’ll see.
For my daughter (and her BF) an hour at an axe throwing place (bar) where you become a lumberjack and throw axes at a wall. Sort of like bowling but more dangerous. They went to an archery place last year and liked it. It is for 4 people and they have a lot of guests visiting, so thought it might give them something to do. When they have guests in the summer they always do active things like river rafting, ropes courses, climbing 14ers, so they always need to be active.
Turns out there are many axe throwing bars around Denver. Who knew?
There are a few axe throwing places under 15 minutes from my house, I went with my girlfriends, it was fun. Here you can bring your own food, beer and wine.
Maybe my daughter will like Axe throwing more than I think. At some of the places, it seemed kind of expensive when you then have to buy your own drinks too. Because I got it on a groupon, on extra sale day, it was ~$50 for 4 people, but some of the places listed it for over $100. Seemed like an expensive cover charge.
But it fits in the stocking nicely. - or will if I can figure out how to print it off the email.
I’ve heard mention of ax throwing, but yikes - sounds dicey to me, especially when mixed with drinking.
It does bring back memories of school fair, where I was dismayed to be assigned balloon darts … 2 years in a row. I was just horrified the first year at the little siblings allowed to have darts. (One little kiddo accidentally sent a dart backward into the crowd when winding up). And yikes, too-soft balloons somehow caused a few arrows to turn around and head back to the crows. So for me, no thanks on axes.
Bounce back happens with axes too–it’ll hit a hard board and bounce pretty much all the way back. Everyone should be out of the way! Good idea to read about axe throwing and get some pointers before going. There are videos also. It is fun though–very empowering!
Agreed! My son, who is impossible to buy for, likes really spicy food. Because of this thread, I noticed Mike’s Extra Hot Honey at my Publix yesterday so it’s going in his stocking.
Not sure if mentioned - but Yellow Bird brand hot sauce sampler was a hit last year in stockings. We purchases at REI - but guessing the small sizes are available elsewhere. Good flavors and varying levels of heat plus nice packaging too.
I went to H-Mart and got a bunch of unusual (to us) snacks. H-Mart is a few towns over from us so we don’t get over there that much, but the YAs do like it although it can be crowded, especially on weekends.
Realized I spent so much time working on the stockings that I don’t really have much to fill them!
Also very glad that I found my stocking and one daughters. I thought I knew were I put them last year but couldn’t find them today. I finally looked in a (Christmas) pillowcase on the shelf next to where I thought they were and there they were.
Tomorrow will be spent shopping and looking for little things that may match the things I have. It’s still the 8th day of Macy’s “One Day Only” sale, isn’t it?
