@bookworm and @2VU0609 - I love these kind of gloves for gardening. My hands are small and other gloves are too bulky and I can’t do fine work. These also keep my hands dry unlike cloth gloves. And they’re cheap. There are many different kinds. This is an example.

A gardener will definitely appreciate a hood pair of gloves. If they have roses or have to deal with any prickly bramble, a pair of rose gloves will be a hit. I like these:

ETA - the gloves linked by @Onward can be washed in a regular washer. I usually toss mine with the yard clothes load and then air dry.
