2022 Fall Stanford Transfer Thread

Rejected second year in a row. I am a current student at an Ivy (non-CA resident) w/ high GPA, took a year off to do a salaried research year at Stanford Med, and have several first author pubs + significant ongoing research at Stanford. Wanted to stay to continue my research. Got recommendations from two profs at my current University that are Stanford alums + one from a Stanford surgeon that I work with.

Tbh doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but one thing that I’ve noticed is that Stanford really likes non-trad/CC students that haven’t really been given a shot…those are the stories they promote about their transfer class + get the most hits. If you are applying from top institution w/ a strong app, don’t get your hopes up. I even was hired to work here for a year (which is unprecedented for someone without a degree in my role) and they couldn’t even waitlist me

@Maddieslalom My friend’s daughter had a similar situation to you. Excelling at another Ivy, perfect GPA, working with Stanford professor, also a legacy. Fabulous application with great activities and strong reason for transfer. Rejected (first time applying). Probably won’t try again.

Is there a list of top 20 universities who give a legitimate chance to transfer for traditional students coming from a Top 40 (or better) university?

I’m a traditional student at a T10 who applied to Stanford this year and got a transfer offer, so it’s definitely doable! But as with all things in transfer applications, subject to an incredible amount of luck.

That is awesome. I have a family member who may try the same next year between his Sophomore and Junior year. Any tips or insight you could offer, or details you would feel comfortable sharing, I am sure many here would gain from it.

Congratulations!!

Could you possibly give more advice about transferring as a student coming from a T10? I’m currently at a T20 and would like to know what it took for someone in a somewhat similar position to achieve this.
Also, are you a sophomore or junior transfer?

Thank you!!

Thank you for the advice!! I’ll keep all of that in mind for meet year.
