Thanks, maybe this is what I’m missing.
Another irony is I finally got a small avocado, the size that you normally see at the supermarket and I’m away, lol.

Question: if you save seeds from your own current plants how do you dry/store them??
I wash tomato seeds in a mesh colander and dry them. Seeds that come dry like dill I just collect off the plant. Store in paper envelopes or small jars in a cool, dark place that is not too dry or humid.
I dry mine outside in the sun. I dry my herbs outside too. I don’t have a dehydrator.
Seeds I saved from one large Musquee de Provence from last year gave me 3 small ones this year.
In early August I planted some lettuce seeds, and them some more a week or two later. Yay, we’ll have a 2nd crop of lettuce (a “cold weather” crop)
Looking good @Colorado_mom, I can’t wait to see my garden.
I just picked 6 pounds of Roma tomatoes from my one plant. It’s been like this for two months. My mom has canned like 15 pints from it, I give to my DD and coworkers and church…I really just want some to eat fresh but every year whatever I plant turns out massive and prolific.
Also picking apples and making gobs of applesauce. Some years we get none, other years we are inundated. (3 small trees)
We like Roma tomatoes, but this year our Roma plant not all that productive. Darn.
I so enjoyed my cottage cheese today with snipped fresh chives from the garden! I think they came back from last year, though I may have added some new seeds to that area too.
What other foods go well with chives?
I love chives with fish, potatoes, and for breakfast mixed with cream cheese.
Anything you might use green onions.
Dip (make it with your cottage cheese if you like
Any egg dish - scrambled, a quiche, omelet
Topping for any potatoes - baked, mashed, roasted
My garden is full of greens, today I picked one bed of watercress.
And my first avocado, I’m so stoked, I killed one avocado years ago, so there’s no guarantee in getting one either.
No rain in the forecast for the next week! Who would have thought I’d be watering tomato plants in Seattle in October! The plants still look green and healthy and are loaded with fruit. I froze quite a few ziplocks with chopped tomatoes already, and it looks like I will have to freeze a few more.
My neighbor asked if I had cleaned my rain barrel out for the season yet. We have had a very dry last month. I said heck no, I’m using that water to keep my current plants inside and out going! It will get closed down in the next month, but NOT YET!
My tomatoes are still green, but Amish paste has no tomatoes, I’m not sure what’s the problem, I’m giving up on this tomato. I won’t be growing it next year. What’s waste of space.
Yesterday dumped out 2 large compost bin, lots of good dirt. I’m so glad I decided this year I won’t buy anymore expensive dirt, I will mix them in my compost to save money.
It’s a bit misty here, nice cool weather for a change.
I picked these 3 pumpkins today, they are Musquee de Provence, seeds I saved from last year. This year the pumpkins aren’t huge, but that’s ok.
lot of greens from my garden
And another melon from my compost, very sweet.
We still have a ton of green tomatoes on the plants, but I think the nights are getting too cool for the plants to stay happy for too much longer.
This year we finally got a “crop” (16) of Meyer lemons… and it took about nine months, but they ripened. I had enough to prepare two large jars of preserved lemons, and have just a few left over, which I plan to use in cocktails since we’re hosting some friends for happy hour this weekend.
Fall cleanup begins…cut down the mint, yanked out the spent zinnias (they usually last a bit longer but the unbearably dry summer/fall did them no favors). Had to cut down our peony plants a little early, as the leaves developed a powdery mildew and I didn’t want it to spread. Planted some allium bulbs and will hope the squirrels leave them alone so we can enjoy blooms in the spring.
What is your region/climate and did you grow your meyer lemons inside or out or a blend??
Agree on the zinnias - I really need to pull mine. Sad day. I am putting some of the dried heads in a paper bag and will try to see if the seed will produce next year.
Our citrus fruit trees are getting a bit more ripe, but not ready, I think maybe Dec. I have a lot of work to do in my garden. Today my husband might help me move one jujube pot to the front, I’m going to transfer this tree to a bigger pot. This will free up a container for Jujube.
I’m on the coast in the mid-Atlantic, USDA zone 7a. The lemon tree is potted and spends half of the year indoors, where it seems to just barely survive (but it did set fruit late last winter) and then really flourishes outdoors from May-Nov.
