2023 Admissions Rate Drops to 5.9%

Interested in different perspectives on this development.

Edit: Oops, sorry, didn’t see the other thread.

In part the lower admit rate is because they scaled back the number of admitted students over last year (and possibly the year before, although applicant #'s are way higher this year than two years ago).

It would be interesting to see the effect of the EA/EDI/EDII scheme (which is unique among schools of this caliber) on the acceptance rate. It would be interesting to see the % of the class admitted EA/EDI/EDII, it has been rumored to be in the ~80% ballpark but i doubt we will get any official numbers. UChicago has been pretty opaque when it comes to admissions.

@Penn95, a good guesstimate is that 60% of the admitted class is ED1/ED2. With a size of approximately 2065 (5.9% * 35,000 applicants), That’s around 1,239. It’s probably closer to 1,200 so let’s round to that. The breakdown would be about 700 ED1, 500 ED2, and probably 850-900 EA/RD. Again - all guesstimates.
