2023 PSU Waiting for Decisions

I understand that Penn State is rolling admission which is most likely you hear back within 6-8 weeks. I applied on November 1st and was just wondering if anyone applied around that time and heard back yet??

Same! My DS sent in his EA application early Octoberā€¦ still waiting!!

Yea a lot of people are still waiting. I just want to know already?. We still have this week and next to hear something.

@mayaaaad , Penn State is ā€œmodifiedā€ rolling admissions. Basically, they just promise if you apply by the early action deadline, you will hear by 12/24. As we get closer to that deadline, they should begin releasing decisions in waves.

@stephaniekatzz , if for any reason you donā€™t get into business, I would encourage you to immediately contact admissions and ask to be reevaluated for DUS (undecided). Likewise, if your parents are able to swing it, you can also indicate a willingness to start in the summer. Smeal is one of the most difficult colleges to gain admissions to. I mention this only because you indicated your stats are in the middle. There are minimal advantages to starting off as a business premajor in Smeal. You can accomplish the same thing by meeting the entrance to major requirements as a student in DUS and then apply to the major at the end of your sophomore year, which is the exact same process that the business premajors have to do.

@sophley I didnā€™t realize that until after I applied, I am undecided business right now, is it better to continue waiting and call immediately after I get a decision ? Or now before I get one? What do I sat and how? Thank you so much! I have been trying to research how to go about this. I did select yes for summer start as well!

@user7531, itā€™s my understanding that if you ask to be reconsidered, you go to the bottom of the pile behind everyone who applied for DUS prior to when you asked to be reconsidered. Since decisions are only a week or so away, you might as well sit tightā€¦unless your stats are below the 25th percentile. If below the 25th percentile, acceptance to Smeal is highly unlikely, unfortunately. Accepted students below the 25th percentile tend to have special circumstances: recruited athlete, kids of faculty/staff, special talent valued by university, etcā€¦or some unusual event that my have caused a temporary dip in grades like the death of a parent or serious illness. If your stats are below the 25th percentile, you may want to prepare yourself for acceptance to a branch campus. On a plus side, Harrisburg and Behrend have excellent AACSB accredited business schools. They are great options for the 2+2 program. Good luck with your decision.

D early action completed application for up under review since aug 15ā€¦
Ugh. Only a few days left but still, really had no idea we would wait this long
so many who applied after us have been accepted
With similar stats
At least we will hear soon
deferred to regular decision, accepted or declined

@Sophley i am currently waiting for an answer i changed my major to DUS before ever getting reviewed for a decision! thank you!

Just saw on decisions only thread applicant accepted who submitted nov 30

In other words, not early action, applied regular decision and has an answer already

High stats of course

That is frustrating to me, my d is not on bubble of stats, is DUS, so I canā€™t really guess why she would be under review since mid August

Meanwhile Ohio state is calling on phone to encourage us to accept, osu admitted her after 8 weeks in mid November

I know itā€™s random etc, not promised etc, Iā€™m just sad no answer yet after all the energy to apply as soon as she could ok August
Oh well, a few more days nowā€¦

Iā€™m surprised that a regular decision applicant has an answer already too. I didnā€™t even notice that. I guess we Early Action applicants just have to keep waiting and hope we hear something soon.

I also wonder if decisions will be released next week or not due to holiday break starting December 15th.

@collegegirl2023 I wonder what the point was of adding early action from applicant perspective?

Ends up Same time frame as regular decision if one applies at beginning and gets answer at end

And the answer will be deferred to regular decision for some, which will add to the total wait even if applied early action

Which could add 4 weeks potentially.

I just donā€™t think itā€™s fair that applicants can apply weeks even months later and get answer before applicants who have reasonable expectation of entry based on psu published criteria

And that place in housing choices line is based on when one commits

Because all I have read in the housing threads shows there are differences among the dorms

@ziveli513 I still have an Early Action status of yes on my portal and if you have the same Iā€™m assuming that means we still have the chance to hear in the next couple days. If moved to Regular Decision we should be informed of that although I am really hoping thatā€™s not the case.

@ziveli513 My son applied to all his schools in September. He had two offers within the first 10 days (UT Dallas, UMinn Twin Cities), both with offers of money (full ride + cash at UTD). He is very high stats but it took two months to get an answer from PSU, and that came a couple of days after we emailed them to see what the holdup was. I donā€™t know if the email lit a fire under them or if the decision coming two days later is a coincidence, but itā€™s worth a try if you havenā€™t already reached out.

Applications should be addressed in the order in which they are received IMO. Thatā€™s what ā€œrolling admissionsā€ means. People who applied in August and September should not still be waiting for a decision.

Fingers crossed for you!

My daughter applied to nursing in the last week of August, but still has no answer.

She has been already accepted into three other direct-admit nursing programs, plus one other school for pre-PA (her back-up plan), so we are not very worried.

Still, it would be nice to have an answer, of course.

Penn State, like every other school we have been following, seems to admit some high stats students first, and then leisurely works down the list.

I just spoke to someone in Admissions, she did confirm that thay will be in the office next week and acceptances will run up through 12/24. So previous reports on the forum that the school will close after this week for break are inaccurate.

She also confirmed that in all the years sheā€™s been working there, there is no rhyme or reason to how the acceptances come out. We can make assumptions based on others stats and dates of submission, but itā€™s just random.

Itā€™s almost over, we should all hear within the next 12 days!! Good luck everyone!

@vamom4, @txmom2016,@collegegirl2023 thanks for your feedback  helps to know we are in it together

Thanks @Psu2023dad Curious. Dis she happen to mention if notification of acceptances come out certain days or times?

^Did

Just random from admissions itself is really disheartening
Why random and then housing is affected by date of commitment to psu?

If housing wasnt affected it wouldnā€™t be as frustrating

Thanks fir sharing the clarification about 12/24 @psu2023dad
