@STEM2017 this link with sat scores specific to students accepted in engineering is very helpful!
I’m looking for similar info specific to Eberly as a pre chemistry major
My d math sat is 680
Not super high though she has a 4.0 uw, has all the higher math and science required for a potential chem major
Psu website says that math sat is under greater scrutiny for science major applicants
So my question is does anyone have info on chemistry math sat ranges?
I google the American chemical society and couldn’t find any info like what stem 2017 showed for engineering
Anyone?
I am concerned that declaring an intent to major in chemistry but with a math 680 (which should be fine for DUS from what y’all have advised) is s mistake
So does anyone here think it’s a negative to switch my daughters major preference from chemistry to DUS?
In hope, but without any guarantee, that it will speed up the process by putting her into a less competitive pool?
So she has best shot at housing preference?
May be overthinking but I can’t see that she loses anything since she can still take chemistry classes as DUS and try for chem major sophomore year
Housing does not fill up until March/April time frame. Since the deadline for regular decision applications hasn’t passed yet, housing is WIDE open. It’s an enormous school. Those accepted for regular decision (By Jan 31) will have absolutely no problem with housing choices if they deposit when they get accepted. It’s those that wait until closer to the decision deadline (May 1) that may end up with supplemental housing. Even so, housing is guaranteed for Freshmen at UP.
My advice @ziveli513 would be to wait, as hard as that is. Her application is likely already in the chemistry pool and I think her stats will gain her an admission. My fear would be that moving her application now might actually slow her down. There is no guarantee about decision time frames. Lots of DUS students won’t hear until right before the decision deadline and there are A LOT more DUS applicants than Chemistry…
DO NOT switch her to DUS at this point as she’d be put to the back of the pile for that, whereas her application is currently being reviewed. For all you know there could be a decision on the portal next week (you have to check the portal as I don’t think they send emails, not sure). Switching to DUS would mean the whole process starts from scratch and based on her stats not only are her odds of admission to Chem very good but as I said she could apply to Schreyer, especially if she’s been invited to do so.
No one will have any problem with housing if they accept their place before March. And if it’s her first choice and she hears by Dec 22, she can accept and deposit in December and be among the first who did so.
@citymama9 , in previous years the decisions would be made in a business day and then the portal was updated at midnight. Conceivably you could wake up on a Saturday morning with your acceptance.
@hunchojack , nope. We didn’t get an email and I don’t recall anyone else receiving one either. That’s why everyone checks portal several times per week.
FWIW, just contacted admissions regarding a separate question and they confirmed that decisions can come out anytime between now and 12/24 (that’s the latest date) for all early applicants - just have to keep checking the portal.
my son got an interview invitation for the Honors college (Schreyer) this Sunday, but he did not get his decision yet. So how does this work, usually after acceptance the honors is considered here Honors seems to be considered before decision? Any insight on this?
