@kryptokun lol honestly I’m not sure either I don’t use CC that much. is there a way to private message me?
@thriving123 Do you have Reddit? If so, just send me your username and ill message you on that.
My daughter got off waitlist last night! We are still soaking it all in…
Congratulations!!! Domestic, correct? Class of 2024? What day did she sign up for the waitlist? Mine signed up 3/25 and followed up with LOCI on 3/31 which I think were little late for both. LOCI date doesn’t seem to have been a factor but do you think the waitlist date might be?
For those that got in, what is one piece of advice you could give on getting accepted ourselves? (Besides write a letter of continued interest)
Is it too late to send a LOCI today?? I was getting ready to make a deposit at UC Santa Barbara because UChicago seemed so far out of reach, but then I found out another girl at my high school with a similar background as me got in just recently… Have I made a mistake in waiting until now?
@goosegoose Just send the LOCI ASAP. If AO likes you, they would offer you a place.
You have not made any mistake. It is just this year AO calls student off WL way earlier than the previous 5 years.
I’m mean from what I’ve been seeing, a lot of people who’ve been sending loci’s early or who’ve been making some sort of contact early have gotten in so I think it might play a factor.
^ That makes sense as they are likely NOT to admit someone who has NOT sent in an LOCI
For any reference, I sent my LOCI the Monday after decisions came out. I’m hoping to get a call, but I feel like I have a good chance. I think the biggest factors have to be whether or not you are full-pay and legacy status (assuming you’ve submitted a LOCI).
I read onQuora that full-pay students have advantage over those requiring need-based aid (as schools have already determined their freshman class composition). How do folks know that? I’m really curious as DD20 doesn’t qualify for need-based aid but is a NMS Finalist and UChicago is listed as a sponsor so picking her would cost something…
I think people just assume that from past years. If you look back at old college confidential threads about waitlists, a lot of the people that said they got in didn’t get financial aid. So I’m not really sure that it’s true, but it’s a trend apparently.
Has any international gotten off the waitlist?
Does U Chicago say if they factor need into wait list selection (or do they explicitly say they are need blind for the wait list)?
^ Have never seen a policy distinction for candidates admitted vs. admitted after waitlisting first. An admission seems to be an admission. And there, UChicago is need-blind for domestic and need-sensitive for international.
Wouldn’t crowd-source the answers to specific FA or waitlist questions. Call the school and ask.
I initially found it on Quora but after digging further, also founded on Ivycoach (100% ED acceptance to Ivy plus this year) with former Ivy plus admissions staff that make up their company). I tried listing their website but it wouldn’t let me. The title of their blog is “ The Need Blind Admissions Lie.”
Were you referring to this post by them in Huffpost?
It’s by the same folks. i can’t seem to paste the link like you can but put a “.” In the blank space before “com” https://www.■■■■■■■■ com/the-ivy-coach-blog/college-admissions/2-reasons-need-blind-admissions-farce/
@JBStillFlying - interesting read. My DD20 has Stats, EC & CS that exceed those mentioned of the UChicago 2024 Admits but has no hook, we’re Not Donors, etc. She’s NMS Finalist and UChicago awards some merit so it still may put her at a disadvantage relative to Full Pay (EFC > NPC but COA = NPC - Merit). Time will tell I suppose… I’ll update when we either get off the Waitlist or Run-out-of-time. She at least has a full ride at her State Flagship as a fall back.
