One left for us, just waiting on Hartt.
Anyone else also got the same reminder email from UMich? Is it just a general reminder for every SMTD applicant?
I would call or email and ask because my daughterâs link was included in the original email from UMich along with the instruction link for a movement video due on 1/14.
wow Thank You So Much!! We overlooked the pass notice sent on Dec 21st
All the Best to our daughtersâ auditionsâ:four_leaf_clover:
We are still waiting on Umich and Elon (results come out 1/21). I honestly donât understand what it going on with Umich. At this point, I am just going to see it as a no, especially if the dance video is due by the 14th. My D emailed them 2 days ago and they said they have everything they need to release her results, but are waiting on her admissions decision. Is this normal for Umich? Were all of you admitted to the school before getting prescreen results? I am just so confused because time is ticking away and it seems she is the only one who hasnât heard back.
This was an acting pass and a movement video (not dance) since these auditions are being held virtually. I think you wrote awhile back that you reached out via email so I donât have any great suggestions. It does seem like a long wait.
You are very welcome! Yes all the best for these kids and this crazy process.
We received the pre-screen pass but we do NOT have a university acceptance. This does seem unusual. I wish I had more information- how frustrating and confusing.
Yeah, I really donât understand why we havenât been given a yes or no. I wonder if it has anything to do with her being a transfer student.
This is the email my D got 3 days ago when she checked in about it-
"Thank your checking in with us, and Happy New Year! We are currently waiting for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to finish their academic review of your application. We hope that it will be complete soon. Once we hear back from them, you will receive an email with your SMTD audition/application status. There is nothing else needed from you at this time.
Thank you for your continued patience. In the meantime, if there is anything else we can help with, please let us know. We are here to assist!
Wishing you a great rest of your day,
The SMTD Admissions Team"

This is not unusual. U of Michigan does not have a separate academic and artistic admissions process. In the end, the applicant will either be admitted overall or not. Not every college has two separate admissions processes. At U of Michigan, your child had an academic prescreen basically, to determine of the applicant was admissible to the university and could then proceed with the audition callback so to speak.
Maybe the response from sooievt (to me) makes sense then- admissions has not finished their review of your student. When did the common application get submitted?
I did not realize that Umich did some kind of admission/academic preview of the application prior to a prescreen pass going through. I assumed in general (for any of these programs) that a student could be admitted to a program and not admitted to a university or vice versa. My D had her University of Minnesota admission decision in advance of passing the prescreen. I really love hearing from all the people who have some idea of how this process actually works- thank you!
D applied to the school on 11/29. She completed her artistic application on 12/2. She had all transcripts in by 12/2.
okay my D- submitted her application to the school on 11/15 and her artistic app the same date. Then there was the holiday break- so maybe your D is just a couple of weeks behind in terms of academic review.
Not all schools do it the same way. Some colleges have a bifurcated process whereby there is a separate academic and separate artistic admission process and thus, two outcomes (ie., you can be accepted to the university but not the BFA programâŠexamples: Pace, Emerson). Some colleges have one admissions process and you are either accepted overall or not (ie., NYU, Michigan).
Makes sense. I am just worried cause it seems like auditions are coming up soon? Makes me think itâs probably a no. Arenât auditions in Jan?
I donât know when MT auditions are- your D is MT right? Acting is 3rd week of January- could be other dates as well. I donât recall.
Thank you!
donât assume if itâs a pass you would know by now! rememberâŠ.no rhyme or reason!!
I think âno rhyme or reasonâ is going to be our catchphrase now.
