Wonderful. I hope her interview goes well. My son had his interview with UCLA for Acting last Thursday. They gave an hour informational discussion regarding the Department. The staff was very friendly. Then they called him for his one on one. I must say it was extremely disappointing. The interviewer , an elderly gentleman, did not introduce himself nor what his position was, was not very friendly, asked two questions and no follow ups or conversation. At the end he stated “I’m good if you’re good”. The interview lasted all of 5 minutes. Not sure what to make of it. My son is extremely personable and very comfortable with adults and interviews. He was baffled. :woman_shrugging:

We had a similar experience with Chapman. Our d did her monologues beautifully. She responds, “that was beautiful, let me give you this direction to see what you can do.”So She gave a direction. Our D was 3 words into implementing her direction and she stopped her to tell her no, no, no… that’s not it. She would quickly direct her and the process happened again only this time she got one word out. This happened 3 times. Literally, our D wasn’t able to get one word out. It was WILD! She then proceeded to end with, thank you for taking my notes, Have a good day, and logged off! No questions, nothing. She was quite cold throughout the entire process. Lasted literally under 5 minutes. Our D was like, what the heck was that!! Then to make matters worse, the kids were supposed to log back on at the end for final remarks. They were a no show, so she sat there for another hour for no reason. I wanted our application money back lol
We laughed and just said, that was most definitely not her school and will move on. Based on that audition she wouldn’t consider the school anymore. I hate when it feels like they are just there going along with the motion with no friendliness, and don’t give the students the attention they deserve. 5 minutes is entirely too short! These kids work hard and deserve their time!! Ok rant over!!! Lol

Totally agree!! My son said it was like the interviewer was on total burn out and could care less. The least these folks could do is be gracious and kind. These kids work extremely hard and for these adults to treat them like they are just a number is terrible modeling. I know he will find the right place for him. It usually works out in the end. Thank you for sharing.

I think emails went out this past Saturday (2/12) from CalArts Admissions. Try checking spam and if nothing there, I would reach out since their callbacks start this upcoming wkend.

Thank you for sharing as well! Makes us feel better we aren’t alone! And yes, I agree to all of that. Even if they have picked all their students already, pretend to be interested and friendly. They deserve it! Best of Luck to y’all!!! I hope your child lands exactly where they are meant to be!

Thank you. With the exception of USC, my daughter only applied to BA programs and only nine total. And after not being invited to audition for that BFA program, this invite was an extremely pleasant and welcome surprise. Her brother actually graduated from UCLA last year, and she was born at UCLA Santa Monica, so the school/campus feels like home to her. We’ll see… :performing_arts:

thank you and hmmm… not sure either. What was his impression of the program? My son just graduated from UCLA and several of his high school and college friends are in the program and have all good things to say about it. I will let you know my daughter’s experience after tomorrow.

I’m sorry your son had that experience. I’d like to think the elderly gentleman was having a bad day. And though I get what you’re saying, we never know what someone else is struggling with and best to lead with grace. Trust he really was good after meeting your son and the interview was just a formality!

Has anyone applied to Rider University after doing a walk-in audition at Unifieds? The website says to apply through the Common App, but because the MT deadline has past it doesn’t have MT BFA as a choice for major. My son was given the business card of an admissions counselor after his audition, but we haven’t been able to get information yet through email. Just wondering if anyone else has figured this out.

Many stories here (and from personal experience) about auditors who gushed and then rejected or an audition that felt terrible/curt/rude followed by an offer. There’s always drama in drama. It’s hard when it’s your kid. Wishing you all the best!

Hey did you get any email today from cmu? We didn’t! Refreshed like every minute! We would get one either way correct?

Just kidding…we just got the email. She didn’t make the final cut. Boy that one stung for her. To make it that far and down to just a couple hundred kids burns. Time and sugar heals all wounds! Hope you had better luck than us over here.

Congrats to her to making it so far! What an accomplishment! She will definitely get into somewhere wonderful!

Thanks for your blessing! We haven’t got any news, but an email for missing Counselor Recommendation and Official Scores … don’t think that’s anything to do with the callback though … yet she’s already proud of being a 2nd round CMU Acting candidate! Our DDs are Great! Fight On!!!

yes, you apply through common app and pick the regular theatre option as MT isn’t available …then you email the Rider admissions email and tell them you auditioned at Unifieds and if they could switch your common app to MT. hope that helps!
