21 shots on your 21st?

Some of my friends thought it was cool. They had a paper they signed after each drink. I guess it's possible, but seems stupid.

Stupid doesn’t begin to describe it. I’m all for drinking and honestly haven’t always been responsible about it, but you can literally die from 21 shots. There is no upside, either. The best case scenario is that you black out very quickly and wake up with one terrible hangover.

Why would you WANT to live past 21? It’s all down hill from there anyway. This is a way to go out with a bang, with a bunch of my friends, AND I’ll get out of writing a thesis Senior year. But just to make sure, do more than 21 shots, mix them with handfuls of prescription pills, and have some loaded guns to play with.

Of course this is a bad idea. No one does this because it’s a GOOD idea. Some people get really excited and giddy when it come to stupid stuff. I cannot explain them to you.

the vast majority of the time no one is doing anywhere near “21” shots…people start losing count after being wasted at 10+ and marking incorrectly the number on their arm as the night progresses. People may wake up with 21+ marks but it hardly means they actually did it, unless they started drinking at like 10 in the morning.

I was gonna goto Vegas and gamble $210 on one hand of blackjack, couldn’t take the time away from school this time though

21 shots is doable if you have the tolerance. my friends and i have a sort of tradition for every birthday up to 21 to do shots to match your age. I did 19, any my BAC was .31, so i could have done two shots. It is one of my friends 21st in 2 weeks and he will gladly do 21.

Where did you get the idea that .31 is a safe BAC?

it isnt safe, but fun

Yeah, it is fun until you die.

I don’t know why I bother caring about anonymous people online, but seriously, it’s not worth it. I don’t care how much of a tolerance you have. But if you do decide to do it, you have to face the consequence – be it alcohol poisoning or death.

if you have consumed alcohol before, i dont think its that dangerous

maybe if you spread the 21 shots over 10+ hours its fine i guess. but 21 shots in like 3-4 hours is insane and stupid.

If it’s a guy (there are maybe one or two girls I’ve ever met who could do it without dying) and you only do vodka or rum, but nothing stronger than 80 proof, it’s possible to do not completely safely, but not ridiculously dangerously if you start drinking early and pace it.
Like go to a happy hour at 5ish, drink three or four right away then one every twenty minutes for an hour or two, then take an hour off, then start again (without the 3 or 4 right away). Drink water, and start on a full stomach.
If you’re a bigger guy, it’s possible without even a black out (assuming you start by 5 in the afternoon and continue until about three in the morning)
But I would not do it, and I would advise most of my friends against it. The ones I wouldn’t really be against doing it, my friends and I would make sure to pace.

Completely stupid, even for those with high-tolerance.

It’s fun to turn 21, but people kind of take it a step too far. Maybe I don’t think it’s a big deal because I was always able to drink whenever/whereever since I went to college. Yeah, it’s fun, but it isn’t the best time of your life or anything. It just means you’re going to spend a lot more money on alcohol. I guess it’s a right of passage, but drinking is not a big deal to me. It hasn’t been since high school.

21 shots: most people don’t have 21 drinks. Because most people don’t view their 21st birthday as the biggest thing ever. I hate it when people make a big deal about turning 21. When you hit your 20s your birthdays make you feel old. Especially birthdays after 21. I think “bros” do 21 shots because drinking a ton of alcohol in a short amount of time is “cool.” There are probably a lot of guys who lie about having 21 shots or drinks. I know plenty who lie about how much they drink when it isn’t their 21st. Personally, I don’t see why you need to drink as much as possible to have fun. Maybe it’s a maturity thing.

This rarely happens. Once you have more than 10 shots you get too drunk to keep track/care, and you get easily distracted. And chances are you will pass out and fall asleep before you hit 21.

.31 is not a safe BAC…thats almost 4 times the legal limit. And also, the average BAC that kills a person is .40 which means that half the people who drink will die before they even hit a BAC of .40. So .31 is cutting it pretty close. Having done 2 more shots would have easily put your BAC above .35 which would be really really dumb.

Honestly, what do you get out of it? Drinking alcohol on your birthday and getting drunk- I understand. Get a good buzz, have a good time. But after 10-12 shots you start to feel like ***** anyways. You’ll puke and have a huge headache. 10 shots will still be enough to have a good night, so there is no need for 21.

Even 10 shots is dangerous. Sure, the alcohol won’t kill you directly, but if you’re drunk enough, then you could still end up doing something like tripping and falling while going down the stairs from someone’s house/apartment and banging your head/neck on the sidewalk below and nearly breaking your neck as a result.

I have nothing against drinking so don’t call me “one of those people who hates drinking”

Absurdly, most of the people doing something this stupid probably wouldn’t go anywhere near a bump of blow or a little methamphetamine. Can I reemphasize stupid?

Haha. This is hilarious. you really shouldnt care if i drink that much. i know what i can handle and have never blacked out and never been hungover. I have gotten sick a few times and passed out once. and for anyone that says you are on your way to being an alcoholic that is not true. I dont need to drink i only drink two or three times a week and didnt drink but twice over the summer.

^ It’s slang for oral sex.

So if a girl ever asks you for a “bump of blow”, just smile and nod.

That was a good article Brave Ulysses.
