hey, i got 750 Writing, 730 Reading, and 620 on Math for a total of 2100.

When i took the sat before any prep, i got a 490 on math and the highest i've been able to get so far is 650 on any practice test.

I have a really good set of EC's, amazing recs, and a sick essay....hopefully i'll also get an interview -- so i'm thinking of applying to some pretty good colleges (some ivys mixed in with other top 30 schools).

---What do I do about raising my math score to high 600's or even breaking 700? is it even possible considering how far I've already come???

Wow, we're almost the same! lol (730 W/740 CR/640 M)

My teachers have told me that math is the easiest subject to increase scores in, so I'm going to work at it to see if I can raise my math at least 20 points.

Hopefully, the same will work for you, but I definately think it's possible! At least I hope it's possible, because I'm doing the same thing. :)

thepapercrane - i don't think its necessarily bad, they'll clearly see I'm more of an english-minded person (as is also reflected in my essay and Extra-currics), but i just don't want it to be a blemish on my applications....just want to improve so that i'm "safe" (whatever that means)

if it helps, i did only a little prep from SAT 2400 + my regular Algebra II class, and my score went up 50 (650-700), and that's from a English person (800 CR)

You already have your recs and essays written for next year? I doubt that.

my essays in the works and it's looking great...my AP English teacher (who decided to create an enrichment program for me specifically) is blown away by the idea....just trust me, it's good.

As for my recs, i already discussed with the teachers I'm picking and they're both very involved with me and my ECs as well as my classes, so they'll be amazing if everything goes as planned...but thanks for being so cynical, i appreciate it

My recent got good SAT score 2210 cr -780, w-760, m-670. I am wondering is possible for him to get descend score and still do badly in school. he does really rank high in school English grade was "c" during his 9th grade although now his is in junior year now and has improve a bit. While his SAT score except for the math are in the 90th percentile and CR and Wrting are 99th percentile. He seem to have trouble in maintaining even top ten percent in school and score out of balance SAT. I an wondering if the school is too tough for him or the SAT is some kind of freak test?

@ kua--The SAT is not a "freak" test (although it's not always accurate in terms of judging how well someone does in school). There are plenty of students with not the best GPA who do really well on the test. This could be for a variety of reasons. Maybe you should talk to him and his guidance councelor about it? It's possible he is having trouble in some of his classes.

Just as an example, my cousin got really good scores (2340 combined or something), but she has ADD so she was having a lot of trouble in school. She had some Cs and Ds on her transcript. She's really really smart, but she had trouble turning in assignments on time and paying attention in class.

(I'm not saying your son has ADD or anything. I'm just using my cousin as an example of how a smart kid may not always do well in school.)

Although, you may be taking the problem a little too seriously. If your son is generally getting Bs in school, those aren't bad grades. It's a little hard to tell from your post what you're saying.

With math, is it careless mistakes, or is it that you just don't know what to do on many problems? Is time the issue? Figure out where you are messing up, and then eliminate those types of problems, and a 700 will be attainable.
