@MomofaMTson - Wow that has got to be terrible! I don’t even remember any of the auditors from Penn State speaking to me once throughout the entire audition, and they were like statues while I was performing, except when one guy (the guy who also ran the dance call, he was okay) started to smile during my comedic monologue. That was the only response I received from any of them. Auditors from the other schools loved that piece, so that was kind of disarming. Maybe they were having a bad day, and it was morning and yada, yada, but the other people that I spoke to who auditioned for PSU during my block mostly had the same experience.

@Starkid - I’m sorry! Those are all extremely selective programs, were they the only ones you auditioned for? I feel your pain, I’ve had five rejections in a row (four of them I assumed would be rejections, but they’re rejections, nonetheless). They don’t get any better, but as long as you have that one acceptance you’re good! Here’s to hoping you get into NYU, and if you don’t, you always have next year to audition again and for other great programs that you may not have known about before (:

After just taking a few hours to calm myself down the rejections have really just made me realize I need to try even harder to pursue my dreams. Hopefully I can go to either Boston university (which I applied to for business) and then minor in theater and still participate in theater stuff) or maybe go to pace and be in NY so I have more opportunities to still be in theater. Other than those 4 auditions schools I applied to Emory (got in for business), BU (same as Emory) and then young Harris and Reinhardt for MT but they’re both in Georgia and I need to get out of here so I’m not going to either.
I appreciate all of your words of encouragement and I won’t let these rejections get me too depressed cause sadly (I know from a LOT of rejection experience) it will happen a ton more. But then you also have the perks in participating in shows and getting feedback from others of encouragement. So in the end, it’s worth the struggle.

@Starkid - Just a story about my S who started as MT but is now Marketing major, minor in dance and music. In his second year, he fractured his ankle and was on crutches for 3 months - and did not do well on his audition for major to MT. As such he has to change is major into Marketing but he continue to pursue his love of MT in whatever opportunity available. He had choreographed some dances and will be part of a musical (Chorus Line) in a community theater this summer. You have good schools to start with and you can continue to pursue your MT interest. And good luck with NYU - my D is on her first year at Tisch (and she was likewise rejected in CMU). Hang in there!

My DD is a dance major but I read the MT posts as she hopes to one day be performing in MT. I never could convince her to try the MT route, she focused on dance and auditions for that major. I read your stories and totally understand what you all are going through. She was accepted at all the schools for dance but the one that was just a placement audition, everyone gets in they just place you at various levels after the audtion, she didn’t feel she placed at a high enough level. @MomofandMTson - she felt like your son did, she only wanted schools that really liked her and wanted her there. She is so happy in the choice she made. But, the hard part is yet to come, auditioning later on for real jobs. It is such a difficult life but she can’t imagine doing anything else. Good luck to all of you.

For the record my S was rejected at UMich (didn’t get past the screen), Penn State, Ithaca, Ball State, and CMU (got the letter today). The streak did end yesterday and he now has offers from a walk-in he did at unifieds (Long Island -Post) and one of his target schools (Hartt). We still have two more to hear from.

Interesting turn of events and I post for informational awareness. One of my son’s actual rejections has now turned into an acceptance due to the dominoes falling of candidates declining. My son has been accepted at Texas State. I think anything can happen right now and I bet more will happen after May 1. We were probably a week or so away from making decisions and may still be. This is a really dark horse coming out of nowhere.

Wow, grayhairedman, that is a shock isn’t it? Congratulations! Let’s all remember to inform the schools you decline as soon as you know for sure! Let’s see how many more dominoes can fall!

Maybe this stuff happens every year, I have no idea. But I know kids this year who were accepted into programs they didn’t apply to and one who was randomly rejected from all before getting into two of the arguably best programs last week. It’s hard to take any of it too seriously. Very happy to be done!
