2160 but great ECs

hello CC ppl,

just had a question. if ur a ORM (international student) and u had rly great reccs, grades (from an int'l sch that consistently does well - 43pts predic for IB), won int'l competitions like model uns and had good essays, would u suggest redoing SAT for the third time (currently it's 690CR 750M 720W). I am really confident my ECs and grades are top notch but cause im an ORM do i have to redo it. Or should i concentrate on my SAT IIs and leave the SATs at that.

just fyi, im looking into stanford scea.

Okay, first off… usually internationals have really high SAT’s to go along with their superb ec’s, so my recommendation is if you can do both (take SAT’s and Subject tests) than go ahead. But if you can’t … then… I advise you to keep on working on your ec’s and essay and get really high scores on your subjects.

Hope I could be of some assistance :)

thank you jk511. yeah my ECs are pretty good, dont wanna post them here but i would say they are definitely top notch. my essay is about how my elementary school friend got hanged for drug trafikking. but do SATs really keep u from getting in (2160) if ur grades are high.

maybe stanford is a reach but what about ED to the “lower” ivies? any suggestions? quite open here and thanks so much in advance.

Dont do Stanford SCEA; It’s sorta “reserved” for URMs and athletes. You could get into great schools though (even HYP etc.) I like the essay topic.

what makes you say that? just curious  why stanford? well cause i think i have the potential for hyp but yale doesnt let u submit a supp.reccomendation. i am getting a great reccomendation from a top ranking diplomat here when i worked in the external affairs ministry but yale discourages supplementary ones whereas stanford says it’s ok.

either ways, back to the question - SAT I redo or dont. The next SAT date is June but i am doing my subject tests then. In October which is the consequent one for internationals is close to my IB tests. So should I bother retaking or not?

bump anyone?

You did IB. Look at this way. My best friend did well in school: 3.8 GPA american diploma but he also took the IGCSE exams. So your IB will help. His SATs were 1980 (YES, 1980!) and he got into Duke, Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, UVA, Umich, UCL, and Imperial college London. He had 1590/1600 SATII , though. Just impress them. Your SAT scores are well within the top college range.

Do very well on the subject tests. DONT APPLY TO STANFORD SCEA, ESPECIALLY IF YOUR AN INTERNATIONAL WHO NEEDS AID.

Nope I do not need aid, I am getting a scholarship from my native country. Either ways,

1.) Would 2160 really hurt chances to HYPS?
2.) If not Stanford SCEA then where? Yale does not allow supplementary reccomendations and I think mine would really stand out.
3.) How about Columbia?

bump 10char

Columbia doesn’t have SCEA, just ED. Meaning if you get in there, you HAVE to go if you do ED. (And it discourages supplementary stuff as well).

I don’t think there’s any problem with Stanford SCEA. Plenty of unhooked people/non-athletes have gotten in SCEA…the fact that you don’t need aid helps there too.

So would my SAT be a problem here? Since it would be very hard to retake (very close to IB exams which are obviously more important).

I don’t think it would be a problem. As long as everything else shines, your SAT score is within the range of acceptable.

ধন্যবাদ! lol haha. thanks man, yeah i think my other credentials are HYPS quality. gotta concentrate on my sat subjects then. thinking physics, math II and world hist.

Ooh you’re Bengali. What’s with the username btw? You kind of sound Bangladeshi.
