I retook a 2150 and improved 30 points. I looked at the avg. stats for last years entering freshmen and fount that the SAT was a bit above 2000, but engineering
is definitely more competitive. What kind of position will a 2180 put me in, considering that I have pretty good academics(competitive school, 3 APs, 2 honors, about 4.25 UC GPA) but VERY mediocre ECs.

By mediocre I mean about 120 hours of public service, blue belt in karate, a year of membership in the comp sci club and a job last summer.

It depends on the type of ECs you have; more science or engineering oriented ECs would help you here. UCLA Engineering also weighs in a bit more heavily on your science scores for SAT IIs, I believe.

FYI, I got into UCLA Engineering in Computer Science, with a 2210 SAT...but a 650 in Bio (the only science course that I could pass).

I'd say slight reach, depending on the Engineering major you're trying to get into.

here are some stats to look at (CC engineering admits):

I got 780 and 800 on SAT 2s.

bump bump bump

you have a good shot (whatever that means in today's random admissions process...)

gnrfan:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCLA: Slight Reach (Engineering)

Any more replies? I think I'll retake the SAT next month and shoot for a 2220 to 2250. I sort of messed up on my essay last time and I know I can do better. If my score improves to that range will it mprove my chances?

Errr...that would be a given. :D

Of course, but how much?

i got in with a 2180 - 770 and 730 SAT II's in IIC/BioE

although, I did have a lot of leadership on my application

I wouldn't worry if I were you.
