Hello, I am an international student, and I received scores on my SAT a couple of hors ago..
My score is: cr:630, math:800, writing:750...
where would you apply if you were me?
I need your advices, please, help me if you can...

It depends on a lot more than just sat scores. You should post more info if you want good suggestions

Try George Washington University in Washington, D.C. or College of William & Mary. Definitely look into New York University and the University of Virginia as well. All of these schools are on the East Coast.

ok, I will say to you briefly about my statistics:
GPA-10 out of 10
Ranking-first in a public school out of 770 students
3rd place on national studying olympiad in geography
finalist of national studying olimpiad in writing essays(two times approximately 20-25th places), geography(besides being 3rd in ranking, in deifferent year placed on 11), history(25th place)…
the winner of many contests, including mathematical competitions, bussines olympiad, research competitions, etc. it’s beyond of school, at schooln also have a myriad of awards…
participated in a summer school of english, where kids were chosen to attend summer english language courses in england without paying money…
volunteer job-200+ hours
worked as a volunteer coordinator of projects related to the department of youth affairs of my country…
participated in a lot of projects, such as european youth parliament, etc…
But one big problem is that my family will not feasibly be able to pay for my tution more than 5-7k dollars…
what are your advices?

any ideas? in addition, I may pursue geography if I get in colleges where this subject is taught… what would you advise me about what I have asked you?

That’s a very impressive resume. I would try for an ivy league if I were you, but obviously those are competitive schools. One benefit of Ivy League schools is that they have outstanding financial aid packages, and many times are able to meet your full needs

thank you mitchwashington…
you know, I have not taken SAT subject tests, which is why I worry if colleges will not be able to see these scores, because I am going to take them in january… in december I missed the registration because of family problems ![]()
ivy league? oh, it would be amazing, but only god can help me to get in… anyways I will try if you advice me… For example, brown, I am impressed with this school… also I wanted to submit arts supplementary material, I mean I’m dancing national dances, so I will take the video and send to the college… can this improve my chances? I also graduated from the musical school with pretty good results, but I am better dancer than piano player :)…

What country are you from? Will you ask for financial aid?

Waverly: I am from a republic of Georgia. Yeah, unfortunately, I have to ask for financial aid, because my family cannot really pay for my tuition. If I had money, I would not contemplate about paying for my tuition, but the world is not shaped as we want :(… Hope the god will help me and my dream will come true :)… what would be your advices?

I’m fairly certain that Ivy Leagues are need-blind, which means that they don’t care that you intend to apply for financial aid if you get in. It’s unfortunate that you weren’t able to take the subject tests, as that would give them a better reading on how your academic skills translate into the U.S. system. Personally, I really like your chances anyway, as you have an awesome class rank, great awards, and great extracurriculars

philanthropist: your stats are really great… too smart you seem to be :)… I am also from south caucasus, azerbaijan, the neighbor country of republic of georgia, and I am pretty aware of esucational system in georgia… as I guess you are from public school, and you stats are amazing… there are american schools in georgia, but you seem to have better score than any student from those schools… also your olympyad(which I know is too competetive) results and extracurriculars are good, especially because as I saw on brown’s site, they have no georgian student… hope everything will be ok for you… contact the university and they will tell if they accept january sat subject test scores… I think they do… it’s important that you have already have some results in your hands :)

azer1993: Hope everthing will be ok as well. You possess a great deal of information about my country, which leads me to respect you more… Yes, you are right, national studying olympiad is too competetive, I mean when I succeeded on it, our president awarded winners with prizes, and as I remember, he said that he was sure that one of us would become the future president of Georgia :)… Thousands of students took part in this contest… also writing essays was too intereseting, I really liked it…

U should apply to really good schools, including HYPSM if u can get your cr score up a little

4 of the ivies are need blind for internationals-HYPD, the other 4 are not. The 4 that are get a crazy number of intnl applicants and competition is fierce.

They are worth trying, but I’d add some less selective schools know to give good aid to internationals: Colgate, Bates, Colby, Carleton are a few. If female add Smith, Mt. Holyoak, Bryn Mawr.

thank you jdlace and waverly…
jlace:I will not have any chance to improve my cr score, because the only one test date is left I can use to take the test, and I think I will need to pass the SAT subject tests(I am not sure if universities accept january sat score though)…
waverly: what about brown? I was impressed with this school, when I perused the website. Their curriculum is designated for undergraduate students, and it attracts me, but unfortunately I cannot take into consideration only my predilections… Yes, you are right, the competition will be fierce in any ivy representative… Especially cr reading score can reduce my chances, but I am sure if I get in college, I will soon increase it, when I work in english environment… Hope universities will pay attention to this fact…

@philanthropist your critical reading score is a bit low, but not horrible. the math score doesn’t need to add a comment
and writing is also very good. if you really want brown, it is advantage for you that they do not have georgian student. However, they have azrbaijanian :)… become your country’s representative there. especially because if you dance georgian dances. i love them, especially that one [Georgian Dances - YouTube](<a href=“Georgian Dances - YouTube”>Georgian Dances - YouTube)
every dance is gathered there
repect you, georgians :)

thank you azer1994, yeah, they are quite impressive, and most of them I can dance ![]()
[Draft. Georgian Dances with the Swords - YouTube](<a href=“Draft. Georgian Dances with the Swords - YouTube”>Draft. Georgian Dances with the Swords - YouTube)
see this video, everyone was impressed, but it caused some fear as well.
yeah, if I get in college, I will try to show my country’s culture to foreigners.

You can decide yourself:

[Brown Admission: Facts & Figures](<a href=“Undergraduate Admission | Brown University”>Undergraduate Admission | Brown University)

Brown accepts about 5% of overall applicants with your CR score, undoubtedly less for internationals. I’m guessing the vast majority are athletes and URMs from inner city schools.

Also, remember that 50% of the class, the athletes, URMs, legacies, staff kids, movie stars etc. are the ones who can have below median scores. And Brown has extremely limited aid for internationals.

Thank you waverly. Hope everything will go well. Yeah, it would be great to have better CR score, but now I cannot change anything. I have left only one test date to use for the SAT subject tests, so I am not able to retake the general one any more. And one more question if you know about Brown admissions: will Brown accept january SAT subject test scores? I mean, I painstakingly scrutinized the website, but there is only written that test scores from january test date will be added to applicant’s file. Does it mean that there is no problem to take the SAT subject tests in january to be eligible to apply to Brown?

Because Brown has extremely aid for internationals, try to get in harvard. They don’t mind your financees. Maybe it is too diffucult to be admitted, but they may overlook you cr score. your math and writing are good enough. I strongly recommend you to apply to harvard, darthmouth and other schools which will not have problems with funds. you may get in them. I think you still have chances, because your resume is fine, while there are few people in you country who score better than you. arts supplementary may help too.
