I am in my senior year and I just took my ACT about 3 weeks and got a 22. It's not a competitive score at all, and I am mad at myself. I hate the ACT, since junior year of high school I have been attending an Early College program and got a 4.0 my last two semesters, and am on my third one at Eastern Michigan University! I am sure I will get a high GPA this semester as well! Since the ACT is a college admissions test, do you think when colleges see that I am and have been in full college courseload (15 credits per semester) will they not pay attention so much to my score? I know that my ACT score is low, but I CAN handle college coursework very well and my college gpa shows that....someone help...thanks!

Try the SAT…you may do better on that.

It’s but one element in your application, and almost all schools will use a holistic approach analysis of your app. You can probably do better and you should prepare to do so, but also write good essays. If your family has the money, it could be well spent on essays and/or standardized test prep. If the test scores don’t come up, there are schools that will not require test scores but will expect more of the essays and GPA–fortunately, you appear to be in really good shape with the GPA.

Be concerned, too, about affording the schools to which you apply. Have The Talk with your parents about what they will contribute each year, and choose your colleges based on the info you glean from them and the net price calculators at each school.
