2200 sat

Hey guys,

I took the January SAT and didn't do too well on the CR section, so my breakdown is: 740M, 690CR, and 770W (10 Essay), which is 2200 total.

If I'm applying to colleges such as UChicago, UVirginia, WashU, Northwestern, and Duke, should I retake my SATs, or instead should I put that effort into getting 5s on AP exams and 750+ scores on subject tests?

Thanks a lot

Your SAT is absolutely fine. Keep your grades up in school and nail your APs/subject tests. Your SAT shows you're in the top 1% in the nation -- anything more isn't really required.

Check out the common data sets for your schools. Chances go way up with higher scores.

Hi! I got a similar score on the January SAT: 2200 (760M, 750CR, 690W [10 essay]).

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I don't think I'm going to retake mine.

Kevmus, you have a very different 2200 than the OP. Most top schools don't use the writing score, so you have a 1510/1600, above median at almost all schools. The OP has 1430/1600, below median at most top schools. Huge difference.

Still, hmom5, I think that the OP's time would be better used by doing better on SAT2s and APs.

Once the OP does well on those, then redoing the SAT might not be that bad of an idea. It isn't urgent by any means, however.

@ hmom : is a 1460/1600 within the median range for the ivies??

Kevmus, you're a URM with a 1510, what you need to do to get into a top school and what the OP needs to do are two very different things.

Vandit, a 1460 is a tad below median at mid range ivies. Last year Dartmouth's median scores were 730CR and740M.

@ hmom : is 1460 too weak for Wharton.? i have a pretty reasonable shot otherwise but I am praying that my sat's don't pull me down..
