I have read many threads on how to get better, but I would like to hear from some people who succeeded in going from 2200 to 2300's or even 2400. Right now, I'm in the 2200 range, but I plan on studying a lot to raise my score 100 or more points.

For critical reading, what is the best way to go from low-mid 700 to high 700. I usually get one vocab wrong total, so I am going to review a lot of vocab (direct hits and spark notes). Other than that, should I just do a bunch of practice CR passages?

As for writing, I had done many practice sections back when I was studying more seriously, and I felt confident, but I could never perform well on the actual test. I would get around 3 MC wrong, mainly identify error and occasionally improve the paragraph. And the essay - I don't really know what to do but be prepared to write quickly and give example. My best score is a 10 and ideally i would like an 11 or 12, but I don't know if reviewing more prompts or just crossing my fingers and hoping for good fortune would help me more.

Thanks to anybody who has comments. I have taken a fairly long break from SAT prep, but I need to get back to intense studying because October will be my final chance and I would like to score in the 2300's and maybe if i get really lucky, get a 2400.

well its possible
first time I scored a 2280 and the second time I ended up with a 2380
so its certainly possible

I never had a problem with the CR vocab on every practice test I took I never missed one vocab question…I think the reason I was able to get a 2380 was primarily that I spent like 50 hours studying critical reading passages and I took like 8 practice tests
but yeah I ended up getting a 720 first time and 780 second time

hey, I also am in the 2200s and low 700s in cr, so we have that in common. As for studying, I obtained a copy of of rocket review which is supposedly really good for cr instruction. Also, Im doing a lot of practice passages provided by snapwiz [SAT Critical Reading by Snapwiz](http://www.snapwiz.com/prep/sat/sat-critical-reading). I think that in order to transition from 2200s to 2300s, you really need to pinpoint what you’re weaknesses are. For me, I’m really bad at inference questions and spotting idiomatic and subjunctive errors. These small loopholes in your sat proficiency make the difference between a 2200 and a 2300

My advice for the writing is to study every rule ever tested for
I greatly improved on the writing
from my PSAT of M:80 CR:78 W:71
then look at practice test explanation problems especially in the official college board book
generalized based on those rules and write them down if you have trouble assimilating them when looking at it
if I were you I would focus on the math if your score is below 750
that score is the easiest to improve
the strategy there is to take as many practice tests as humanly possible and learn the tehcniques used especially on the harder problems…ideally
gather as many SAT prep books (get em for free on torrentz.com and search SAT prep)
scan through and only do harder math problems so you spend less time

but yeah the writing part which was hardest for me was the spot the error questions cuz there is a tendency to think that there is an error when there is really not

CR believe it or not is calibrating your sense of what the correct interpretation of an answer is to best approximate the sensibility of the Collegeboard test makers
this is hard but studying the official college board book is a great idea

and since you tend to miss one vocab per test
just cram vocab
and believe me vocab is perhaps the most crucial element of intelligence (it has highest correlation to g)
but yeah maybe I am weird but I finished the SAT math sections in about 8-10 minutes on average
but I always find myself strapped for time on the CR sections
I have ADHD and even with a hefty dose of amphetamines my reading speed is much slower than my overall processing speed
its a marvel that I managed a 780 with ADHD very few probably could do that
but do not get discouraged
it can be done
and do not overpay for private tutors they don’t help
it takes a lot of motivation
and an ability to perspective shift on CR passages

inference questions believe it or not can be improved by practicing analogy tests
