221 PSAT Score in Texas

Do I make the cutoff to be National Merit Semifinalist?

You should. the highest cutoff in texas was in 2010 PSAT at 219. 2011 cut off was 217 (216?) and most years it has been 215 or 216.

Last year cutoff was 216 in TX

216 means including 216 or above 216?

216 and above made it last year. I would say you are pretty safe. Here is a forum on CC with a lot of info.

You will not be formally notified until your school is notified in late August (sometimes they hold the info til later in Sept, but you will need to follow up with your school if they wait too long – you will have a relatively easy essay and application due a couple of weeks into October). So you don’t have anything you have to do until then. Although you might want to look at schools that are generous to NMFs and get a couple on your list. Good for you!

Thanks for your replies. I’m glad to know I’ll be a semifinalist. Naturally, I’ll ask: How does one become a finalist?

So are you in Texas or California?

You will receive a package to fill out once nominated NMSF. You need a comparable SAT score to qualify and need a rec from your school along with a simple essay.

Umm No. Last year the cutoff was 219 for Texas. Same for two years back.

The cutoff for 2014 students was only announced in September.

You don’t need to correct a one year old thread.
