2220 SAT score good enough?

M-780
CR-640 (ugh)
W-800
GPA- 4.7 W, 3.9 UW
IB Diploma Candidate
5 on AP US History
A lot of volunteering hours
No school sports, but I workout regularly and play basketball almost every day
What are my chances at Stanford, Harvey Mudd, UPenn, and Northwestern?
Should I retake the SATs because of CR score?

Schools look at these in sections, not as an overall number. Because you are looking at top schools a 640 probably isn’t going to be your best showing. There is nothing ‘wrong’ with a 2220, it’s the breakdown that matters. If you have time to take these in October (ie you are not taking SAT2’s in October to meet an EA/ED deadline) you might want to consider retesting. Check the schools to ensure they superscore. If they do you can simply put your prep efforts into CR which will make it much easer. Your score of 640 isn’t bad at all, you are just applying to some very competitive schools. You want to leave the reader with no doubts on scores so they can move on to other parts of your application.

Best of luck.

Yeah, I’d retake it if I were you. The good thing is that you could basically slack off on math and writing while you practice. Just really nail down those vocabs from Direct Hits and make sure you have an effective and efficient way of reading passages and answering the questions. CR is hard to improve but with enough work the 2300+ should come by :).

A 640 I believe will put you lower than the 25th percentile for Stanford, so I suggest you take it again.
Many colleges super-score, so focus on scoring high on the Critical Reading; if you score 700+, you should be fine.

Thanks…very helpful. I had another question regarding SAT IIs. Suppose I retake the SAT I in October and take the SAT IIs in November (after the EA deadline), would colleges still accept my SAT II scores from November after the deadline?

If by “good enough” you mean that your SAT score isn’t going to rule you out of contention, you’re probably right (although that CR score is a bit of a red flag).

If by “good enough” you are thinking that people with that kind of SAT score stand a really good chance of getting into Stanford, Harvey Mudd, UPenn, and Northwestern, then you do not understand how admissions works at very selective colleges.

OP- Check the individual websites to see if your schools will accept the Nov. SAT II scores for EA. Some do, some don’t. You can call admissions and the assisitants will be friendly and be happy to tell you.
