I took the SAT for the first time in June at the end of my sophomore year, and then again on November 3rd at the beginning of my junior year.

the first time, I scored a 2220, with 760 W, 660 M, and 800 CR
the second time, i scored a 2270, with 780 W, 690 M, and 800 CR

I'm looking at applying to top colleges, so what do you think of my scores?
My math score is much lower than reading and writing...is that really going to hurt me?

I'm not that bad at math, idk what happened both times :/
Do you think it would be a good idea if i take SAT II math 2 and do well?

I'm not retaking the SAT, just wanted to gather some opinions on my scores!

My feeling is that a 690 on the Math section is fine. I think, back in the day, before the SAT was recentered, a 700 on math was a little easier to get. I know because my son also had a 690 before he bumped into the 700s in November.

By the way, the old Verbal 700 was today’s CR 760.

Perazziman, you have the recentering backwards. A 690 before is worth 750 now.
That being said, as long as the OP doesn’t want to go into math or engineering a 2270 should be fine for any school.

If you think you can do substantially better on the math part of the SAT (due to silly errors or big deviations from your practice test scores), then take it again. Many colleges do not factor in SAT W to any significant degree and so your 2270, may be viewed as a 1490. The 800 in CR is awesome, but last year, per the SAT statistics on its web site, over 8000 students achieved this score and so at the very top schools this alone may not put you over the top.

Erin’s Dad, please take a second look at the SAT Math equivalency table. Old 700 equals recentered 690. :)

So to get the old 1400 (700 on each old section) equivalency, one must score 1450 on M+CR with at least a 760 on the CR section.

Good catch. I never noticed the recentering drifted from 660-710 and below 230 in math.

Don’t worry. It doesn’t affect you in any way if you score well in SAT Math Level2.
