2290 sat : 2.4 gpa : lol

so i hate to say this but i have a 2.4 gpa throughout my junior year of high school with no aps or honors classes.

the good news is that i also have a 2290 on my sat....

i have a few ec(clubs,sports teams)

what do you think the best 4 year colleges i could get into are(please no cc)

id love to go to either michigan state or ohio state so if you could chance me there :D

but any suggestions are incredibly welcome!

What is your GPA for grades 9-11? I may have misunderstood, but I can’t tell if you’re saying that you got a 2.4 throughout your junior year or throughout high school.

Your problem is that some schools have a minimum 3.0 GPA (do OSU and MSU have such)?

Your GPA suggests that you’re smart, but refuse to do what you’re told to do. That doesn’t reflect well to colleges, because it suggests that you’ll blow-off whatever profs assign.

Why is your GPA so low?

One or both of those school is out of state for you. Neither would give you financial aid if you’re out of state.

So, would your parents be willing to pay the $40k per year for you to go there? IF not, how much will your parents’ pay each year (ask if you don’t know). The amount that your parents will pay will largely determine where you will go.

BTW…what will your grades be at the end of this semester?

FYI…here’s the stats on MSU for the mid-50s students (I would expect that those who fall below this mid-50s range are probably special admits - like athletes and such.)

Fall 2009 Freshman Profile

* Entering class: 7,209

 • High school GPA: 3.41-3.85*
 • Composite ACT: 23-27*
 • Composite SAT (Critical Reading and Math): 1030-1250*

For OSU, I found this…

87% ranked in the top quarter of their graduating classes. I imagine that your GPA would place you somewhere in the lower quarter or lower half of your class. Again, that would be a problem.

my overall gpa is 2.4
my gpa is low cause i switched schools a bunch of times and i guess it was hard to make friends within the schools… this kinda led me to being depressed on not really caring at all about school…

a little better this year since ive managed a 3.0 in my junior year

the good is i wont need financial aid and i dont think either osu or msu discrimiate for out of state/instate

i dunno how that all factors in tho

Your best bet is to write an incredibly awesome essay that attempts to explain how switching schools affected your ability to maintain friendships, which in turn affected your ability to perform to your potential academically. But don’t hold too much hope at better schools. My son had stats similar to yours, GPA just below 3.0, with very well documented learning diabilities from an early age. His essays were well-written and moving. His teacher recs were very good, GC probably average. His admission results were pretty dismal. Being full pay will be a plus.

fishymom, may I ask what his SAT/ACT score was?

@Plymeth 34 ACT, don’t remember exact SAT, 15 somthing/1600.
