23 in science...

so i took one of the practice tests in the "real acts" prep book
i did fine on math and english (high 20s) and feel confident in my ability to bring those scores up, and i got a 35 on reading.
how can i bring up my science score (23)?

Don’t read the experiments first. Read the question, then go back and find the answer.

Read nothing except in conflicting viewpoints passages.

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE

The “science” section is all logic and deduction-based questioning. I can see why it might be challenging for some. Just practice and you will do fine. It takes time.

and btw, taking courses in biology, chemistry, and physics can definitely help.

I know everyone says to go stright to the questions…but there are some questions which require you to read the passages closely, and find the relationship between variables and stuff. Then I have to go hunting in the paragraph to find what I’m looking for and that’s how I usually lose time…I’m still trying to find a way to fix the problem. I’m seriously freaking out that the test is september, and I’m still at a 25 for science…ahhhhhhhhh.

^i TOTALLY feel ya. i hate hate hate science portion with a passion. I’ve managed to improve greatly on almost all my sections but my science scores continue to float in the 23-25 range (my highest was a 27…and frankly i’d be fine with that as long as the rest of my scores were 30+ but im pretty sure i got lucky with that 27…)

ughh.

Yeah, those summary questions can be tough.

Just practice, that’s all. I got 36 math, 35 science, 34 english, and then a 28 on reading, it sucked. It was the stupid humanities passage, I got the 55th percentile, whereas all the others were in the 97-99. What does that tell colleges?

Not much, just that you are a little unbalanced on humanities and math/science.

don’t worry, i went from a 19 to a 31 in science… you’ll get the hang of it

There was another post I remember that when from 18 to 36 and one that went from 23 to 36 composite.

Apparently, the science test just throws a lot of people off the first time.

I am hovering at a 24 in Science too.

i’m with ya…i got a 26 the first time…

I got a 32 the first time, but I dropped down to a 26 the second time (geez, that science in June was a massacre). And you know what’s weird? My composite score stayed the same! Anyway, I’m taking my third and final test in september.
