I just got back my SAT scores, and after superscoring my two takes, I got a 2300. This score probably wouldn’t be an issue if I wasn’t Asian; I’ve heard many other Asians get 2360+ as the standard, so I’m not sure if this will be a good score to send to competitive ivies. I’m still waiting on February ACT scores to come out, and hoping for a 35 or so.
I also understand that scores aren’t everything, as I have a very angular set of extracurriculars; I just want to check how this score will affect my application.
It’s a great score regardless of race. Don’t worry about it honestly. Colleges are going to judge you because you’re an asian who didn’t score a 2360. That would be so wrong lol. I’m pretty sure anyone would be happy to have your SAT score. Don’t over think it.
Don’t worry about it. Your score is great. Compared to my “Asian contemporaries” I have a 2130 and a 33. I guess I’m lucky I have white parents or my imaginary tiger mom would throw me out in the streets?
Also as a side note, I know Asians who got lower scores and are just fine in the college process. Don’t base so much off of the stereotype.
It’s not as bad as it seems.
Movies and Internet have built this stereotype of Asians excelling in all exams whatsoever.
True, in my country India, people do consider scores as definition of students, but it’s not for everyone. There are many people who get in awesome colleges with average stats.
Your score is in a range in which other factors like ECs, essays etc come into play. You can be assured that no college will reject you because your friend scored a couple of points more.
The mean Asian score is around 1650 and it is likely inflated due to foreign candidate scores. Don’t listen to gossip. A 2300 will not prevent you from getting in anywhere.
