2330 on SATs. Should I retake?

Trying to get into some Ivy schools. lol. Should I retake it? (it was my first time.. idk if that makes a difference.)

800 CR
790 Math
740 Writing

Oh, and I'm an East Asian female going to a large, public, but "good" school.

Only if you are confident you can do better, and you have nothing else to do with your time.

it would be foolish to take it again.

Nope, you’re set! Congratulations! Your worst score is writing, which nowhere really cares about. Also, you might want to check your addition skills :p.

^was that meant to be an April Fool’s joke? xD
OP: I think you’re set, that’s a really competitive GPA you got there, make sure you have a high GPA and killer ECs to get the adcom’s attention too. Good luck!

this type of thread makes me so frickin mad. Makes those of us with less than 2000 on the SAT feel bad. Honestly, find a hobby. If you are seriously considering retaking the SAT you have a major problem and need to do something else with your time.

Your score is excellent; congratulations!
In my opinion you need not take the test again; the fact that you earned this score on your first sitting is–in my opinion–more impressive than taking the test more than once and receiving a higher score with each sitting.

thanks for the responses everyone! yeah, i really don’t want to retake it… haha… i know someone who got a 2400 on her second shot, but you know honestly i don’t think college admissions officers really care. although i think i may just be good at taking tests. i misread the directions for the last part (where one had to copy something down in cursive) because i printed it instead. maybe i will though b/c my mom wants me to. bleh.

oh, and if it seems like i’m being arrogant… lol… i’m really not actually. its probably hard to tell over the internet though

You don’t need to take them again. Use the time you would have spent studying and retaking the test to do something else amazing that you enjoy and will help your application. Once you are in the range that you are for your SAT’s you are considered “worthy of a look” by all of the top schools.

Now make sure when you get that look, there is something worth seeing there. Think of something that will make you stand out, not something that every other (numerically) qualified applicant has in their application. Remember every HS has a captain of a team, a president of NHS etc. Think of something unique that you really enjoy, and focus on that. Show them your passion and commitment.

Also, there are schools that do look at the writing. Penn for example is one who consider all three scores.

parentofthepeople is absolutely right. People who retake when they have a 2330 look numbers-obsessed and desperate. Adcoms wonder why they didn’t have anything better to do with their time.

If you don’t WANT to take it again, definitely don’t take it again.
I got 2340 on my first sitting, with 740 on math. I retook, trying to get 2400, but still made a stupid mistake on the math and got 2380. So it didn’t really seem worth it. The situation is a little different because I was looking at MIT at the time and 740 math is legitimately a low score there. But if you aren’t motivated to retake, you shouldn’t force yourself, because if you don’t improve your score the effort will REALLY not be worth it. And it won’t make any difference in college admissions. Your math and CR are at or above the 75th percentile for any Ivy, and your writing is well within the middle 50 percent.
(And some people are being unnecessarily blunt. Methinks some of them are just jealous. Congratulations!)

You’re golden already.

I wouldn’t say you’re crazy for retaking it, especially if you do prep work in writing. But if you don’t have the time, or if studying would mean cutting the time you spend on an EC or your schoolwork, don’t worry about it–your CR/M score is where it needs to be.

No.

tenchar

don’t be obnoxious.

NO!!! That score can get you into any school, but it’s not all about the SAT, there are many things that a school looks at when deciding who to admit. Now you need to work on everything else.

No. 10char

No, especially no if you’re preparing to take AP tests and SAT IIs, which can also make or break your application.

Only if you get it up to 2400 lol

I wouldn’t…work on other parts of your high school application.
