This was my first time taking the SAT and i got
Writing: 800 (Essay 11)
CR: 800
Math: 740 (GDIGDIGDIGDGDIGDI)
and i realize that 2340 is like really good and i shouldn’t be complaining but im kind of worried about my math score because I might want to major in engineering and stuff. I got an 800 on sat II math II but idk how this will affect it. If i were to take the test again, my scores in writing and cr werent a fluke and im pretty confident they would stay the same.
should i take the test again? will colleges care? (i’m shooting for ivy leagues) PLEASE HELP unless you have like actual problems then just ignore me
A 740 in Math will almost definitely not bar you from acceptance into an Engineering program, especially with a 2340 total and 800 on Math II. Focus on the other parts of your applications, you don’t need to worry about that score
Unless you’re pinning all your hopes on MIT (where the ridiculously high middle 50% is 740 - 800), that is a perfectly good score for lots of engineering programs! Surely you have more important things to do than wasting another precious Saturday at the testing center
Um, dude you are actually me. I wanna do engineering and I got a 740 in Math with 800 and 790 in CR and W. Also got an 800 on Math II.
I decided to retake despite everyone calling me crazy and I got a 2400! I wouldn’t necessarily recommend my path of action, but if you’re confident you’ll do better and have the time, I’d do it. Still, I’m not an adcomm, so I don’t know exactly what kind of spark a 740 to 800 jump in math would provide to your candidacy. But that’ll likely boost you from ~50th percentile to ~75th percentile in math amongst the other applicants, and that can’t hurt.
Won’t really matter. Up to you if you have the funds and the time.
If you have As in math it will matter even less.
Nah. You have SAT subject test for Math Level 2? You have AP Calc? If so, you’ve proven your math ability just fine.
Top engineering schools will look at your SAT math scores quite closely. Being at the 25th percentile would hurt if a place like MIT is your dream. However for the large majority of non engineering schools your score is fine.
