List of schools (it’s a long one..)

Stanford
Harvard
Princeton
Yale
MIT
UC Berkeley
Caltech
John Hopkins
UPenn
UChicago
Duke
Cornell
Northwestern
UWash
UWisconsin

Shooting for a Stanford SCEA, but depending on how I feel about the essay and recs, that might change.

If you could rate high reach, reach, match, etc that would be great! :)

please don’t waste forum space

Besides the 2400, seems like a typical HYPE applicant. Unless you have something RADICALLY different from another Asian with 2400 with ISEF,APs,Piano skills then I’d say the ivies might be bit of a high reach but John Hopkins and below are solid matches. Just being realistic; all colleges want someone who can contribute something different to their community.

Unless of course you can get in for swimming which would be guaranteed lol.

What is “state ISEF?”

Stanford - high reach, just because your in the south and they seem to have preference to those in california.
Harvard - reach
Princeton - reach
Yale - match, i don’t think there are as many asians at yale so it might be easier
MIT - match
UC Berkeley - match
Caltech - match
John Hopkins -match
UPenn - match
UChicago - match
Duke- match
Cornell- match
Northwestern- match
UWash- match
UWisconsin- match

PLEASE I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE ANYONE TO CHANCE ME AND I PROMISE ILL CHANCE BACK. I COULD USE AS MUCH FEEDBACK AS POSSIBLE.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1383626-chance-me-penn-georgetown-vandy-wash-u-uva-unc-michigan-uf.html#post14782511

Thanks for the quick feedback! ISEF stands for intel science and engineering fair. Now my turn to ask about acronyms; what does HYPE stand for?

Also, would German not be considered something “different?”

It’s HYPS and not HYPE, maybe that is where the confusion.

how is it possible to do club swimming and high school swimming competitively and still have a 4.0/2400?

I don’t think it’d be fair to say anyone’s a match for Caltech/MIT/UPenn/Yale

Stanford - reach
Harvard - reach
Princeton - reach
Yale - reach
MIT - reach
UC Berkeley - high match
Caltech - low reach
John Hopkins - high match
UPenn - reach
UChicago - reach
Duke - match
Cornell - reach
Northwestern - reach
UWash - low match
UWisconsin - safety

How are Cornell and Northwestern “Reaches” while Duke is a “Match”? Hopkins is a “Low Reach”, not a “High Match”.

I can see a stereotypical Asian applicant like this being dinged across the board at HYPSM. I would apply to Duke or Penn ED if I were you to maximize your odds of getting into an elite school.

I know what ISEF stands for; what is “state ISEF.” is “state ISEF” the qualifying science fair leading up to the ISEF finals?

Duke and MIT are NOT matches. They are solid reaches.

Thank you DrGoogle for the clarification!

cubanochico: Magic. And a whole lot of it too.

Stemit: I’m sorry for the confusion. Yes, state ISEF is exactly what you stated. As you can see, not terribly impressive.

I’m glad to see that I have so many opinions on which are reaches, matches, etc!

Question from last post still stands. Has hoping that it would make me stand out, but if not, then I’ll have to find something else.

woah, can you give me some tips, i do team and club swimming but barely getting a 3.6 gpa. how do you study. please help?

btw, can you chance on my thread, UCB and stanford

Question: Have you made state in swimming before?

Woah… and all of the sudden everyone is interested in my swimming.

Dream4Life: It’s pretty rough. Takes a lot of dedication. Just stick with it and you’ll be fine.

dundunyang: I’ve gotten to state in both club and high school, but nothing beyond that.

That should look pretty good. You should put it on there.
