So im currently enrolled in this prep class called elite, their kinda good and they have been beneficial to get around a 2000. But i want to go all the way and get that 2400. So im planning on buying the pr 11 practice tests,Grubers Math, and Barrons 2400. I have like 23 cb tests. So do u guys think i cam do it and get a 2400 or so in 8 weeks time. And also whsts ur guys opinion about my plan

First off, it’s “they’re kinda good”, not “their kinda good”, for one. Too funny. Use the 8 weeks. Go for it dude.

The Princeton Review book is a waste of your time. PR’s SAT books contain a multitude of errors.

Your 23 CB tests are more than enough. If you finish all of them and diligently review your mistakes, that should be enough for a solid chance at a 2400.

Take it from me. I never cracked open a Princeton Review SAT book this summer, yet I bumped up my score by 500-600 points this summer ;). I sure as heck didn’t take 23 practice tests either ;).

First everyone wants to 2400 goal.
And you should definately work on your spelling (Not to mention grammar)

And IceQube, what books did you use to jump 500-600? It’s impressive! Good Job (:

^ Thanks! Below are the books I used this summer. The only book I purchased as the Blue Book. All the other ones I found at the library or bookstore.

I also rated the books with a +, -, or o (o for OK).

Books I used:

Gruber’s (+)
Gruber’s 2400 (-)

Barron’s SAT (+)
Barron’s PSAT (+)
Barron’s 2400 (++)
Barron’s Writing Workbook (+)

Blue Book, 1st edition (+)

Nova’s Math Bible (o)

Up Your Score (+, worth a read; not worth purchasing)

Kaplan 2400 (++)
Kaplan PSAT (+)

Zen in the Art of the SAT (o)

^ You’re just lucky that you have a bookstore near you. I have none, and my local library only has Kaplan, Grubers, and basically one or two other SAT books by unknown companies.

^ Amazon.com

guys i typed this really fast, plus i was on my fone

@IceQube

REALLY? That’s it? I see you are a fan of Barrons XD

will old psats and pre 2005 sat help for cr

I forgot to add, I also used McGraw Hill’s SAT book. It’s really really good. (++) :).

And yes, old PSATs and SATs will help you on the passage-based questions. I wouldn’t bother with the analogies though.

Amazon is not a book store (well in my sense). It is an online retailer, however, they don’t let you read the books on the spot like physical book stores do.

You can go inside a book store, and read the books there as much as you want before buying. You can’t in Amazon. However, Amazon is ofcourse my main source of books, since they are pretty cheap.

@IceQube, what is your current SAT score??

@IceQube, also, what do you suggest is the best book for math in that list. My current scores are around a 530-610. If it’s a Gruber’s book could you please specify which exact one it is. Also, what do you recommend is the best for increasing my reading and writing. My scores for reading are 650-700. And for writing my scores are 610-740. I’m currently not really going to be using any workbooks because Xiggi is suggesting me to basically only use BB for right now, and understand each and every topic. But i’m just curious to know. :)

Gruber is garbage even for math.

Unless you are looking only for the practice tests from Gruber, avoid it.

livelikeali: You can find my current SAT score by looking at my post history. I’ve already mentioned it several times on the forum and I don’t want to keep flaunting it - I don’t want people to think I’m bragging ;).

Since your math scores are in the 530-610 range, I suggest that you get a Gruber’s book and start working on the math section. It’s not “junk” by any means - I’ve used it and I can safely say that it is a good match for you and your scores.

I have to disagree with Xiggi here - there are no explanations with the BB. So if you get a problem wrong, you won’t know what you did wrong.

Then what should I use for math besides the BB…when I need it

Ice:

I’m too lazy to look through you posts…
So flaunt your score again XD

livelikeali: Try the McGraw-Hill book. Its writing section is amazing.

The MG-Hill book doesn’t talk to you non-stop for 50 pages about grammar like the Gruber’s book, or digress into a cheesy grammar review
