2400 in SAT but...

that 4.4 is really going to hurt your chances at any top university.

you're definitely in the category of the typical asian
and that would not help you that much

no offense I'm asian too-Korean

The reason half of the 2400's get in is because well over half of the 2400's also have a 4.0+ with amazing ECs. The reason the other half of 2400's don't get in is either the school doesn't have room in the class, or the have weakness in other areas of their app.

shoenberg3 -

You have about a 20 to 30% chance of being accepted at a top school, maybe a bit better, depending on your class rank.

By the way, if you're interested in pre-med, you should check out Washington Universtiy in St. Louis. It has one of the top pre-med programs in the U.S. I think the pre-med program was ranked number 2 last year. Anyway, the school as a whole was ranked 11th in US News, just after Dartmouth and just above Brown.

Dude, is piano your only EC???

This is why I like being black when it comes to admissions. If a black kid had stats like shoenberg, then Harvard would practically beg the kid to attend. I got into Columbia with a 33. I'm going to try for a 36, which I think I can attain soon.

you guys, he's an "internationally" competitive pianist. How is that not a hook? I'd say his chances are excellent.

Yeah, I agree. With those international competitions, his chances are great.

still hes such a stereotypical asian. im not saying you should stop playing piano, but do something unique...

i'd say you have good chances everywhere you apply.

2 b's won't hurt you much.

Boring, cliche. But you have a good chance of getting in. Piano is your hook.

I tihnk you guys are ridiculous. Now we don't exactly know how great at piano he/she is, but it appears to be of considerable significance. If this person is good enough at piano (the bar is very high), then they will be accepted. Honestly, do you think Yo-Yo Ma's application was tossed aside because he was just a "typical Asian?" Give me a break...

how many 2400 4.0 piano playing asians do you think each college wants?

how many 2400, extremey GOOD asian piano players do you think there are?

do you really find these random 18-22 year olds reassuring? you are obviously a strong candidate, but you fit into a stereotype. not necessarily an asian one, but one in which high school students believe that admissions and life success are linear.

Your stats are great and all but yea, you're the stereotypical asian, theres nothing special about your stuff actually. Its just high test scores, high grades (which means a lot) but you show no passion for anything.

chocolateisgood,
I understand where you are coming from because many Asians who play piano do not like it.

But, i find it offensive that you think i have no more passion for piano than does someone with a less "typical" activity; this is just downright assumptive and ignorant.

Truth is, music is one of the most important things in my life and I don't think this will change.

hey im rooting for u schoenberg
ppl may think u fit into the streotype, but ithink the fact that piano is ur only activity might enhance ur chances
it shows that piano is ur only one, true passion and that my come thru ur apps/ or CDs if u send one
as a musician myself (i play flute) i totally respect that
good luck

Interesting. I may know who you are. lol.

Anyway, back to point. Colleges love perfect scorers but...like 'tchaikovsky' said, some TOP SCHOOLS actually DON'T like perfect scorers. They will think you are a total nerd and couldn't bring much to their insistution other than grades! I know I sound ridiculous, but it is true (I know several cases of this).

Also, are you of Korean ancestery? If you are, a perfect score on the Korean SAT II's may not be a great thing because colleges will think that you are one of those people who only care about scores and not care about how much they challenge themselves.

Hope this was of help to you.

I still think you should apply for the ivies 'cause you NEVER know. I am sure you will get into one or two for sure!!!! =)

GOOD LUCK...
