2400 on SAT = good?

They keep saying a 2400 on the SAT doesnt mean much, yet I know all these ppl who made 2400s/1600s on their SATs that have gotten into Harvard.

Is Harvard actually putting more emphasis and favor on the 2400/1600 students than they claim?

Not really, it's just that 2400 students might be of a higher quality anyways...and the truth is every little advantage helps.

Might want to compare the actual figures though, which say around 40% or so of 1600s get into Harvard (preferred college study, a lot of links to it on the forums).

It's not that it doesn't mean much, just that it's not the only thing they look at. Honestly, if you get a 2400 but have few to no EC's, they might think you got your perfect score because all you do is study. But if you show that you're really involved in other ways, then the 2400 will help show that you can balance academics and activities.

the problem is that a high-SAT score is correlated to intelligence which is correlated to achievement.

as someone above pointed out, a 2400 will likely be good at other things.

so the 2400 isn't the CAUSE of admission, but it is correlated to many things that induce admission, and hence, is positively related to admission.

you're right, 14ofspades.

There aren't a lot of 2400s to go around.

Cool, only 240 2390s! (And only 238 2400s)

Wow, I wonder where we're all applying...we should all get together

^Community college perhaps?
