Guys I desperately need advice from you .... I've always tried my best in my previous SAT II attempts to score 2400's in the test [Math level II , Physics and Chemistry] ... but I've always failed ... it feels its nearly impossible .. For the first test i prepared with princeton only but for the second i read thru a bit using barrons .... And expert advice ??? Help me out here

From what I’ve read, the curves for all three of those tests are pretty generous. I’ve seen Princeton Review recommended for Chem, Barron’s/PR recommended for Physics, and Sparknotes for Math II.

what exactly do you think that accomplishes?

Have you sat the actual tests multiple times or just practiced?
These are relatively minor parts of the college application - scores in the high 700s are doubtless just fine - or so I have been assured by my child’s college counselor (who is a former admissions counselor at an elite school), so I recommend putting your time and energy elsewhere.

@fledgling - thanks for your reply … really appreciate it
@ nemom - The actual mater is that I’ve taken the SAT II twice . And I really doubt the college I am applying to in India would take me in with 700’s and above … its cuz of the tight competition there . I really gotta get this 2400 … just don’t know how to go about . I am kinda really screwed . I’ve got Princeton (Phy , Chem and Math II) and Barrons (Math II and Phy) please suggest me some preparation technique .

hey, i’ve got 800s on Chem and Math IIC and it seems that Kaplan/PR is good for Chem, Barron’s for Math IIC and PR/Kaplan again for physics. Barron’s for sciences tend to go to AP level in sciences, yet they dont reach the AP level as a whole.

I took 26 practice exams for Math IIC and 4 exams for Chem. Math was too much of an overprep, yet Barron’s helped me to solidify my Pre-Calculus background for AP Calculus, which I am looking at a 5 for this year’s exam.

Hope this helped :)

The Chemistry test has a very tough curve.

^ How tough? How many wrong can you get? Why is an 800 in like the 94th percentile?

huh? i dont understand, i got 93rd percentile and still got an 800 lol did I get lucky?

I don’t know if 94 is the correct number but it was around there

It could be a highly self-selecting group. On the official released test, one could only miss two out of 85.

[pats self on back]

@benhpark thanks for your reply . Its quite much of hardwork you’ve put for maths IIC taking 26 practice tests . Looks like you did deserve it . By the Way … in my condition now I’ve got princetons of all three subjects and barrons of math IIC and Phy. I’ll study princeton of phy and chem and do barrons IIC wat do ya think ?

How did u do 26 practice tests ? You got any online tests or books for those ? I wanna take many practice tests too … unfortunately there books for very less approx 2 to 4 thats it .

Every exam is tough, the curves can either make them easier or harder etc.

I would say Barrons for math II - but it really depends on how much youre planning to put in. Barron’s overprepares you but it’s never bad to learn more than you’re supposed to - the knowledge comes in handy somewhere right?

I only used Barron’s for physics as well and got 800 first time. I would say Barron’s is good except some concepts are taught badly in the book - so I just asked my teacher at school when I was unsure about things.

All rite thanks for all of your reply guys ! Lets see what happens in this June 5th SAT . Hope its a 2400 . :D

I got an 800 on the Chem SAT II and it was only 91st percentile (May 2009).

i got 800 in math II, Chem, and Bio, used Barrons for all three…
Bio’s curve was definitely the worst out of the 3… so i’d recommend physics if you really want the 2400 on SAT IIs

I’m going for physics at the beginning of next year, I’ll see how that goes. I didn’t take it in May because i had 6 ap tests that i needed to study for and I had SAT II bio.
