2400 on the SAT and Rejection

I think prestige also has to do something with the school’s endowment and it’s research budget.

zuckerberg got a 2340…

I think the problem is the common notion that 2400 is a free pass to top colleges. This is not true. 50% of the applicants with 2400s get rejected from HYPSMC. Yes, it is true that 2400 on the SAT can bring your chances up in college app significantly. But does it mean a free pass? No. College app is partially a crap shoot. You just have to have some luck.

^no.

50% get rejected from one of HYPSMC

using law of probs…

1-(.5)^6 = expected number of rejection from all HYPSMC (assuming independence)

98.4%

Zuckerberg did not have writing portion back in 2001.

Princeton listed success rate of 21% this year for 2300 -2400.

I’d like to know something else. How many of the top 20-50 colleges reject a 2400er? Would 2400 be a free pass to, say, UT Austin or Penn State etc?

In State UT Austin requires one to have top 9% rank. If you are in top 20% and have a 2400, you may still make it. Out of state is considered holistic and since one pays 250% premium on tuition, I am sure, they will take someone with high SAT score.
