2400 students

When I first began my college search, I was not planning on attending a school with fewer than 4,000 students. However, I've really been drawn toward Vassar for a number of reasons, and I am now very seriously thinking of enrolling. Can somebody comment on the size of the student body and how that affects day to day life at Vassar? Do you eventually come to recognize every face, or is it possible to still be meeting new people at the end of the year? Does it get borring to be around the same people all the time, or does it mean that friendships and bonds can be even deeper?
Thanks!

Well, I was in a bit of an opposite situation from you, rer678 in that I was looking at mainly schools smaller than Vassar, but I can most certainly throw in my two cents.

I personally find the size of the student body at Vassar to be just about perfect. It's not huge so that it feels overwhelming, but at the same time, you're definitely not going to know everyone on campus by the end of your freshman year... after over seven months of being here, I still see people around campus who I don't recall seeing before and meet plenty of new people on a regular basis.

As for your final question, I don't think it gets boring to be around the "same people" all the time. Although that itself is up to you. If you're interested, you can drift around from person to person and group to group... the school is big enough that you probably won't run into the same people all the time. At the same time, however, the smaller environment (and dorm life) does indeed encourage the fostering of closer friendships, if that's what you'd like to have.

Hope this helps!
