25+ hours too much?

Hours physically in class, I mean, a week. Not credits or units. People keep saying that credits vary per school so they can't really say if taking x number of credits is actually a lot of work. So is being in class for around 27 hours a week considered a heavy workload for a freshman?

27 hours sounds like an awful lot. Consider how much time you have to spend outside of class doing homework, going to tutoring, studying for tests, etc. I tend to spend more time working on a subject outside of class time. I know I couldn't do 27 hours of class per week. What kind of classes are they?

Two Architecture design studios, three hours each, so one three hour class every morning.
Calculus every day.
Freshman Seminar about Troy twice a week.
Architecture and Society history class twice a week and a dicussion time for it once a week.

It sounds like a lot..
But it could be manageable if your classes are related to each other.
I think the most I had was 22 hours per week and I was still able to work part-time

Yes.
At most schools on the semester schedule, a 3-credit course is 2 hours, 40 minutes of class time per week.
Your schedule would be the equivalent of 30 credits under the semester system!

Another way to think about it. They suggest you set aside 2-3 times your class time to study. Class 27, Study 54-81. There's only 168 hours a week. Sleeping and eating will take at least 60 hours. You'll be using every waking hour studying or in class. And we haven't even factored in travel/walking time. If try this schedule, you'll have no time for extracurriculars or fun.

Normally, I would say "it depends on a lot of things"; 27 is a lot but can certainly be manageable. I've done 23-24 [hours in class/lab, not credits] and done fine (in classes I would say are much harder than architecture).

But given that you're a freshman, this is way too much. I would not have been able to handle it as a freshman.

The only class I can drop is the seminar one but I have to take it next semester anyway because all freshmen have to take one. What about 23, 24ish hours? Would that be better for a freshman?

I am in quite a predicament because all of those classes are required for this semester.

Since many of your hours are in the design studio, you will be getting the Arch. assignments done there. (Studio art and architecture all have alot of studio hours because it just takes many hours to draw, draft, or paint.)

For your academic classses, Calc homework should be straight forward (look for a study group if the problem sets are too challenging); the seminar and history class will probably require regular reading and some papers.

As long as you don't have a team commitment, or a job, you should be fine. Good luck!!

It looks like the bulk of your time is for studio classes, so it's not that bad.

25 is about avg.

I was in class a little more than that last semester, and I still had time leftover for varsity sport, 3 clubs, pledging, and going out a lot. But I won't lie, the amount of time I spent in the library for these classes was staggering. I'm still trying to figure out how I did it.

25+ sounds alot, i have 23 hours a week physically +clubs+emt classes+volunteer. i only have 19 credits hours though. if you dont want to do anything else but classes and like one or two club, it should be fine.
