25 to 33 reading (o.O)

haha SO. in april i took the ACT, got a 25 on the reading...today, i just took a reading rest from the practice test free booklet (you know..the one from the guidance office, or you can download it free online) and i got a 33 (yay!) i was really elated. but uh....this is somewhat indicative of what i will get on the real thing right?......maybe i was just lucky..haha....i'm so pessimistic....

Isn’t that the practice test where you can miss 2 on the reading for a 36?

oh woops…i guess i actually got a 35? at the highest…still, haha…anything 30+ is really major for me…whatever the curve is…i’m wholly satisfied with -3

“Isn’t that the practice test where you can miss 2 on the reading for a 36?”

Not if he is talking about the new one.

^since when did i become a “he”?? hahaha…no worries =)

it says 2009-2010 at the top. but it does say 38-40 is a 36 on the reading

38-40 is a 36 on the reading
-did they change it for this year’s act?
or is that just how the practice is ?

No, thats the curve for that particular test. The curve is different for different tests.

OP, yes, it should be indicative of what you will get on the real thing as long as you took the practice test timed. Just remember to keep in mind that your score can vary depending on how interesting the passages are for you, etc… But, yes, it is indicative of what you will get on the real thing unless you like get nervous, freak out, and perform badly come test day.

Your 25 was probably a flake.

Your score is probably higher than a 25, but I have never seen a test where you can miss more then 1 for a 36 ever assuming that’s the test. It might be an easier test with such a generous curve.

does the curve change for every act test? or just that one?

Yes, the curve changes for every ACT test. It changes to account for how difficult a test is. If a test is easier than usual, the curve will be harsher than usual. OTOH, if a test is harder than usual, the curve will be easier than usual.

I went from a 26 to a 34, its totally possible

I went from a 26 to a 34, its totally possible

-how did you study to go from an average score to a really great score?

i NEED my reading to go up like that lol… all of my other scores are 32+ while the reading’s lying at 24 =.=“”"

Its totally Possible to Jump that high. The first time I took the ACT compared to my Last, I jumped 8 points for my composite score. I might even take it again just for the HECK of it.

for those of you who rasied your score that much, did you actually change your strategies?

^I went from a 24 to a 32, but I received the 24 in 2007. I didn’t really change anything I did, personally and I never even used an ACT book to study from either (a few practice tests). I just went to school, read assigned books, learned grammar rules, science jargon, and algebraic mathematical approaches. 10th grade was the most useful year of my life so far. I haven’t found any of the ACT books to help me much from what i’ve done in the last months other then the practice tests: The book gives you a general idea of what you should know, but you will need to go more in depth to get a better score then what the book will get you (I’m guessing around a 28-30 alone).
