One of the colleges I'm applying to asks "why are you applying to X college?" on the Common App supplement. But the response box has a limit of 250 characters, which seems very small! Definatly way to short to write a proper "why X?" essay... How should one approach it? List things you like about the place? Write a few sentences? Or what?

The best thing with such tight limitsd is to pick one single aspect that attrascts you most and say why it appeals to you, and how you could potentially contribute with regards to that aspect.

Also, try to restate the school's "mission" and how you would contribute towards that goal.

Talking about the school's philiosophy could help you, but try to connect the reason why you want to attend the college, personally.
