25k EFC?

I just really wanted to get the Drexel financial aid packet today but here in NY we have 32 inches of snow so we had a state of emergency until today at 6 so we have not gotten mail in 2 days, I will just sneak UB onto my FAFSA even though I won’t get anything and then Monday get my parents to let me apply or I just do it myself because I am scared of not getting into SBU.

Like I said, don’t hold your breath on Drexel offering a lot, especially if you haven’t already been given notice of a merit award. My daughter was awarded her merit award when she got her acceptance a couple months ago and she was accepted into engineering (the combined BS/MS program) and they were not generous with aid even though she has great stats well over their average student. I’m not saying there isn’t a chance, I’m just saying plan as if it won’t work out and then be pleasantly surprised if it does. Definitely add UB to the mix!

but my aunt went and looked at it with my cousin last year and they hated it and my parents believed what they said and wouldn’t let me apply but her parents have money and she goes to Plymouth State in NH

I hope it’s not too late for your to apply here. Tell your parents that you don’t have the financial luxury that your aunt & cousin have to be so picky.

Would you qualify for a scholarship (If so, I hope it won’t be too late to get one.)

There is no deadline to apply, you can apply up until school starts but I just want to get it out tomorrow so I can at least apply for aid just in case I get lucky, my Gpa is kind of low but my SATs are well over the 50% and I think Buffalo and Drexel have about the same admission standards.

On most websites it says that UB is rolling but on the commonapp its say rolling deadline is 2/15? I never saw that anywhere else or does that mean I can’t use the commonapp and I have to now use the SUNY application?

Does it say that 2/15 is the “priority deadline”???

UB is rolling admissions - here are the important dates:

[UB Undergraduate Admissions: Applying - Important Dates](http://admissions.buffalo.edu/apply/importantdates.php)

Okay, I saw that but I didn’t understand it when I first saw it, thanks.

How much debt do you think I would have if I went to any of the schools I applied/accepted to and paid for it all my self?

University of Delaware - Out of State
University of Massachusetts - Amherst - Out of State
SUNY Stony Brook - In-State
York College of Pennsylvania - private
Drexel University - Private
SUNY Buffalo - In-State

How much debt do you think I would have if I went to any of the schools I applied/accepted to and paid for it all my self?

This is an odd question. What do you mean …pay for all of it yourself? Do you mean if you paid for the entire COA yourself with no aid at all from the schools?

No, I mean that my parents don’t help me and my EFC is 25k how much debt do you think I would end up with, I was just wondering because if some magical thing happens and I get into UDel I am going to UDel.

UDel will have a COA of about $36k next year (which will rise each year).

Since you’re OOS, you won’t likely get any FA from them other than a Stafford loan and maybe some work study to go towards your need…

So…it’s possible that you would be expected to borrow…

$100k for EFC (25k times 4 years)
$5500 for frosh
$6500 for soph
$7500 for junior

$7500 for senior

$127k plus any gaps in your FA package.

*because if some magical thing happens and I get into UDel I am going to UDel. *

What? Do you think it’s reasonable to borrow $127k to go to UDel?

You say that you’ll likely make between $45-50k per year when you graduate. There is no way you’ll have a decent life if you borrow that much.

University of Delaware does give merit aid to out of state students. We know several students from our state (not Del) who have gotten merit awards from UDel. Perhaps you will get a merit award.

You really have to seriously know how your college bills are going to be paid. If the school(s) come forth with sufficient aid, you are all set. If they don’t, you will have to reconsider these schools. SOMEONE has to pay the bills.

Sit down and talk to your family. Have a serious and realistic discussion with them. Then go from there.

Thats is a little disappointing.

*Gpa - 2.98(83)
SATs - M670 CR530 W480
Rank - 152/295 bottom 50% *

I don’t think he would get merit aid from UDel.

From UDel website…

For the Class of 2010, most scholarship winners were in the top 10% of their high school graduating class, with many in the top 5%; most had A or A- high school GPAs, and most had SATs of 1300 or higher.

I am just hoping to get into UDel, but I did just apply to UBuffalo.

Glad to hear that you’ve applied to UB. You may get into UDel, but it’s not likely going to be affordable. I hope that you’re not considering taking on such debt to go there.

You really think I have a chance at UDel?

Yes, I think you have a chance…but really, what is the point? You can’t afford to go there. There is just no rational reason for you to go into such debt to go there.

Screw what your parents think if they won’t pay for school. From now on you’re on your own.
