<p>I recently received my 3rd ACT score and it's a 27. Does this kill any chance of getting into Stanford? I've taken the SAT twice and I've gotten a 1790 on both. Do i have any chance at all? Have you heard of people getting into Stanford with a 27? My GPA is 3.7 with full IB and about 5 APs. </p>

<p>An African American w/27ACT and 1790 SAT will be compared with similar students who bring the same attributes to the entering class. That being said, you’ll be 99.5% swamped by your competition who will have better academic credentials than you. Unfortunately, that’s how the numbers stack up for Stanford. </p>
<p>However, your academic achievements to date are still fantastic and should bode well for a successful collegiate career – just not at one of the most selective and elite colleges extant, though. Good luck to you.</p>
<p>Since you are a URM, you might have a chance, not saying a great one, but yo do. If you have strong EC’s, SAT II’s, awards, etc… you might just get in(low reach). If not, then I would have to say that’s a mid/high reach.</p>

<p>URM status is really your only substantial hope to get in (no offense at all to you or URMs – 27 is quite a bit on the low side). Since you are a URM, you are more likely to have your ACT score overlooked by the adcoms so long as you have other good stats (gpa, ec, leadership, comm service/research). </p>
<p>You’d still have to show you can handle the workload and be a fit for the school (academically and based on your interests/breadth or type of ecs).</p>
<p>(Basically what I’m saying is that it isn’t a lost hope )</p>
<p>According to the Common Data Set, for last year’s freshman admits who reported ACT scores, 84% had composite scores of 30 and above.</p>
<p>I’m saying that ACT 27 and 3.7GPA, is very low for the Stanford URM applicant sub group.</p>
<p>Yeah I do realize my ACT score is very low for Stanford. The terrible thing is re-taking in December for the 4th time seems like a bad idea because Stanford wants ALL scores. As for the SAT, I want to do subject tests on December 3rd, so there is no other test date for the regular SAT. I’ve come to the conclusion that I should still apply, but not expect too much.</p>
<p>I would take the ACT again in December. It isn’t going to look “bad” to Stanford if you can raise it above 27. The higher score you can get the better. :)</p>

<p>If you didn’t already know, Stanford superscores the ACT! Or at least I think it was stanford that said that at a college information session I went to. (the colleges were Harvard, Duke, UPenn, Georgetown, and Stanford)</p>
<p>You need to prep/study for the ACT and take it a 4th time. With prep, you should be able to bring it up at least 2 more points (if not more).</p>

<p>Okay, so I’m taking the December 3rd SAT subject tests. From a PR practice test, I got a 720 on the MATH II(very ironic because my ACT math is 24 :(). Anyway, will a high SAT Math II help with somehow overlooking my 24 Math? I know it’s very strange to get a 24 in ACT math yet a 720 in Math level 2 practice test. It’s because my AP Calc course is really helping me out.</p>
<p>Math II has a crazy curve. I skipped like 7 problems(timing issue) and still got a 770. It’s a good idea to take it if you’re doing well on the practice tests. Good luck!</p>

<p>I honestly have no clue, as I am just another applicant. But, it shouldn’t hurt, right? They will certainly take that into account, but I don’t think it replaces your ACT score. The ACT curve is very harsh compared to SAT II’s.</p>
<p>Speaking from one Stanford URM hopeful to another, I would say that your scores are still somewhat low. Granted, there are many students at Stanford who have comparable scores to yours, it’s made for with scholastic achievement and extracurriculars. As the applicant pool gets more competitive, so does the URM sub-group. Applicants are exponentially becoming more qualified so the advantage of being URM is diminishing a little bit. Just try to take one more shot at those standardized exams to heighten your chances. Your superscore isn’t bad either. I would still suggest applying! You never know. Good luck to you.</p>
