when i’m talking to adults, they keep insisting i have a favorite:

adult: “So tell me, what’s your top choice?”
me: “I, uh, don’t really have one. I’m waiting to see where I get in before I pick one.”
adult: “Come on you must have one…”
me: “Umm…no, actually…I don’t…”
adult: “But say if you DO get into all of them, then where would you go?”
me: “Haven’t thought about it. Don’t want to set myself up for disappointment.”
adult: "Oh I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. You’ll get into where you’re meant to go.
me: “Uhh…thanks?”
adult: “And you’re sure there isn’t a special one?”
me: awkward chuckle…“Pretty sure.”

i HATE these conversations

It’s nice to see that everybody here pretty much goes through the same stuff. I’ve been dodging the college question by saying the U. of Kansas (local state school where everybody goes). It’s my fall-back so I figure it’s safe to use as an answer to avoid any awkward conversations.

I’ve tried to keep where I’ve applied under wraps as much as possible. My school has sent one student to MIT and one to Duke in the past ten years, so out-of-state private schools aren’t really talked about here.

Does Yale/other ivies release online decisions on the 30th and then send out letters sometime thereafter? Or will I receive a letter on the 30th?

STORY OF MY LIFE!!! I hate the “what if you get into all of them?” question because I’m pretty sure 99% of us would pick Yale, Harvard or Princeton. However, that’s very unrealistic considering the acceptance rates are <10% and the applicant pools are already the top of the top.

No way - I’d go to Brown over any other Ivy… hands down :)

Letter probably comes after the 30th.

Panicking

@rainbowrose hahah i know! i swear, some adults are just stupid. who wouldn’t go to harvard, princeton, or yale if you got into them? its like, “nooo, i’d rather go to a mediocre state school that no one has ever heard about.” sheesh!

Well, not to wax philosophic or anything, but maybe for some people going to a “mediocre state school” is a better option because of financial reasons or just personal fit. I know several people who got into one or more of the HYP trio, visited, didn’t like the atmosphere, and ended up going to places like UCLA or UCSD on full scholarship and loved it. But I do get the point you’re making that HYP are awesome schools and anyone would theoretically love to be able to go to one :)

haha i understand that. i’m more referring to my own thought process. sorry if i came off kinda obnoxious =]

It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one that constantly dodges the “Where are you going next year?” and then the “So…Where DID you apply then?”. Like someone else said, I’ve started to reply with my state university…it’s a lot easier!

Lalalaaa… only 20 days left!

^Me too! I’m like, the UCs… and, uh, some other places… haha!

Did Yale send an e-mail notifying that march 30th was the notification date?

Not that I’ve gotten (though I’m an international)

I don’t recall getting anything from Yale that I can remember.

I’m a SCEA deferree, and the date was sent all the way back in November when I got my Eli Account login.

^^ Other Ivies have already said the decision notification date is March 30, and all Ivies release their decisions at the same time, so yes, March 30 is the notification date for Yale.

At the top of the email with your Eli Account info, it says online decision notification will be on March 30th.

I used to always dodge the top choice question with saying it depends on scholarships etc, so then one friend decided to go “okay you get into everywhere with full scholarships, where would you go?” Normally I wouldn’t mind saying the ivies, but sometimes I feel silly saying those schools, especially to friends who don’t know me academically.

at least we have daylight savings time, we get to wait one hour less now.

OH MY GOD NO. Okay. So I haven’t been on here in a while and didn’t notice the fact that decisions come out on March 30th this year. If anyone remembers back in November, I had to wait a whole extra hour and a half to find out SCEA decisions because I have piano lessons on Wednesdays at 4 and that was a Wednesday and march 30th is a Wednesday and I hate everything

I CAN’T HANDLE THIS

MY LIFE IS SO HARD
