I am in my first year.

First semester, I took Calculus I Hon, Financial Accounting, Fundamental Physics (w/ lab), Religion in the US, and an Honors Colloquium. I got all A's in those classes and an S in the colloquium. I had no Friday classes and I didn't have to do much studying. My physics class was easier than high school physics (less homework, less need to study), and I only took Physics I Honors in high school. The labs for the classes were about the same. I had loads more free time, also. So I had less work and more free time.

This semester I'm taking Calculus II, Financial Management of the Firm, Dinos and Disasters, Cultural Imperialism (online), and Elementary Chinese I. I'm working a little harder this semester because I have to study a little more, but I still have loads more free time than I did in high school. The demand is just less than it was in high school. Also, still no Friday classes.

Next (fall) semester I'm taking major-specific classes including Intro to Actuarial Mathematics, Calculus III, Ordinary Differential Equations, Intermediate Chinese, and an Actuarial Tutorial. I don't expect it to be as easy as it has been; I hope I will still have a decent amount of free time, though. I shouldn't have Friday classes next semester, either.

amw thank you for the info. My only question is are there requirements for that much math in your major. Your math sequence leading at least to diffyQ is normally what I might associate with a ME program like I took.

amw You should do well with differential equations, especially if you are doing well with Integral Calculus. DiffyQ is a course that kids can struggle with, but as long as you crack the code and can understand what technique to use to solve the problem and to be able to master the technique it is actually pretty cookbook and fairly easy.

The final's generally are something like 10 questions each requiring a different technique (ie for example Laplace transform ect) pick any 7 and solve them. I actually minored in Math many years ago so I still have an interest in the subject field.

It sounds like amw06m might be an actuarial science major. FSU has an excellent program and it is very math intensive.

So we are actually down to 22 or 21 days. Do we believe that most of the decisions have been made and there is just the slots at the bottom of the distributions that they are still evaluating kids for.

I can't help but think that there is a group of kids that due to their academics, talents or EC's that are already in for this block. That just leaves the remaining slots for the masses so to speak to compete for.

So I maybe a little lost in the thread, lol, but I was reading some of the comments on here and wanted to weigh in my opinion as a sophomore at FSU.

-I took AP classes throughout high school and in comparison to the one or two FSU 1000 level courses I had to take in my first year, the former proved to be more challenging. The classes I took were both taught by graduate students in the given department and the workload, compared to what was assigned to us in AP English Lit., for example, was nothing. However, I do recommend coming in with at least some AP credit, as it helps you with other courses you might need to take.

As a Biology major, most of my science classes (or "major" courses) have been composed of a lecture that meets three times a week and a recitation class where students bring in questions and etc. about a particular topic they may have. My recitation instructors have ranged from senior undergraduates in the given department to third year graduate students and although some of them have been helpful, my best bet was going to see a professor during office hours and asking my questions then.

Well, that's just my two cents. Good luck to all! =)

I am an actuarial science major, which is under the Department of Mathematics. Everything I have taken and am taking in the future is required for either liberal arts or my major, aside from the Chinese.

Acceptance was posted this afternoon finally for fall term at UCF. I wouldn't expect now a negative decision for her from FSU at the end of the month.

We are all relieved!!!!

Congrats!!!

Congratulations, Ray!

Well it is down to two weeks, just seems like a lot of time is being wasted with no info and no decisions.

I know, I'm anxious!

bbecker your in based on what you have told us. Your not concerned are you?

Hope your already making your summer plans as it's going to get here quick.

:-) I am, I've already started planning for my orientation and summer drive there and back. I was talking to my brother about it, He offered to come with me and help me since my mom isn't going to come. But i'll feel bad if he does come cause that makes two cars to drive. I'm also still debating if I should take my car along. I plan on doing alot of walking to get around and also exercise and hopefully no driving around besides the drive home that I'm sure my mom would not come and get me 8 hours up to tallahassee, She already hates the 2 hour drive to orlando to visit her friend and my aunt who recently just moved there from new york. But I'm def exicited.

12 days left! It's been a very stressful wait, well for me and dealing with a few things on the side. I can't wait to get out of here.

You sure do have alot going on in your life, getting to school will be a very good thing.

Attendance during the summer will be less than at the start of the fall soi there will be less kids around and probably less activites, you might want that car to get out and about and enjoy some of many things to do in the area during the summer. Why don't you give Mom the benefit of the doubt and ask her?

Because I already know she's going to give me the "I'm old enough to do things on my own" speech or "I don't have any more vacation to get off work" which is AMAZING! how she can't take her daughter to college but she can find the time and vacation to go ON vacation to aruba, dominican republic and las vegas.

Obviously the parents on CC are mostly helicopter-type so we are possibly more excited about college than our student is...in the long run you are going to be better off being able to handle situations yourself. I wanted to help set up my son's room but he pushed me out the door. I have not been back since and I think he is happier and more confident when I butt out.

Yeah, I've done major things alone so why is now any different right?

Everyone probably knows about these webcams but they are a bit different than normal as they stream instead of refresh
