2nd Choice Major likelihood of changing majors to Engineering?

I found out that I was admitted into my 2nd choice major of Physics in the College of Letters and Science at UCSB. My 1st choice was Mechanical Engineering (in the College of Engineering), which I would really like to pursue. Before I plan to register, I want to switch my major which I understand has a very small chance of coming through. If this fails, my plan is to switch majors while in my 1st/2nd quarter. So, how likely would it be to switch my major (in the college of engineering) before matriculating and/or after I begin attending?
As a side note, I received a 4.43 W GPA and a 4.0 UW my last semester, which I assume will boost my chances of switching.

Changing into Engineering is difficult and not guaranteed: https://engineering.ucsb.edu/undergraduate/academic-advising/change-major-college-engineering

Were you accepted as a direct admit anywhere else?

@Gumbymom I was accepted at UCSC and UCR, waitlisted to UCD and UCSD, and still waiting on UCI.

I would wait until all decisions are in and then you need to decide if going to UCSB is more important than pursuing ME or visa versa. Physics at UCSB is still a very good option.

Best of luck.

@Gumbymom Thanks for the advice!
