I ran home for lunch and checked my phone messages. There was a call from an alumni interviewer (s applied rd to Duke). S had an interview the last week in January, and thought it had gone well. His GC has never had anyone contacted for a 2nd interview before, and the general consensus has always been that the interviews are not a critical factor in admissions. Is this likely some sort of mix-up, or a more in-depth look at S? TIA for any insight.

Did your son receive a message (perhaps in replay to his thank-you note) from the interviewer that the interview report had been sent in? My son had 2 alumini interviews, and received confirmation from the interviewer that the report had been sent.

If Duke got the original report - I don't know what to make of it. Hope your son doesn't mind interviews.

Ohio_mom-Yes, his interviewer did respond that he'd sent it in, and that was 2 weeks ago. I don't know what to think about it either. S is OK with interviews, he's only had the Duke one though. It was pretty laid back. Thanks

Very odd. If your son hasn't already contacted Duke, he could mention that he had the one interview, but would be happy to interview again. Either the first report never got to Duke, or the interview was so laid back the desired information was not gathered. In either case, take is as a good sign. And good luck to your son!

That is odd as the interview is not supposed to be evaluatory and is not required for Duke. Good luck to your son from me as well.

You know, it just occurred to me, that they may have just scheduled your son twice. My son was double scheduled a couple of time because he went to school in one alumni interview area and we lived in another. I remember getting a call about an interview, and when I said that he had already interview with an alum, the guy just thanked me and that was the end of it. This was 5 years ago, so the memory is dim. We did not think anything of it.

luckysmom: I don't know how much weight the interviews have. My Son's Duke invterviewer told him that it didn't make any difference.

My brother used to interview. He is an alum. He said it makes no difference at all. That the interviews are set up for the benefit of the kid so that he could ask questions, talk to a Dukie.

Thanks for your responses. I'll have him call Duke to see if they double scheduled him, and also mention to the alum that he's already been interviewed. Hopefully he won't need to interview again. If he does, it's time to iron the pants again! I'll let you know what happens.
