2nd quarter: straight 'F's?

try to make up the course work. i’m sure your teacher would understand if the absences were excused.

wow, that’s a huge drop…good luck to making those grades up

What an appropriate username.

@juillet, princessbell, keshira: Thanks for the support and the advice. I’m starting to realize that I’ll have to get a doctor to support my case, as well as bring my grades up as far as humanly possible. One thing that resonated with me was the, “Don’t try to cover up the low grades, just explain them while you can.” I guess I shouldn’t ignore the problem (and just hope they don’t see it) but instead I should address it head-on.

@tokenadult: Even with my senior year, my high school GPA is roughly still within PSU’s ranges.

@fauve: I was tested for mono VERY recently, like a couple of weeks ago. Negative.

@SecretAsianMan: The school did originally give me a chance to make the work up, but they only gave me a few weeks to do it. I was also expected to keep up with 3rd quarter work while I was making up 2nd quarter. In reality, it was a pretty impossible situation and I decided to cut my losses and just move on to 3rd quarter without any distractions. Looking back, I made the wrong decision. I’m just trying to figure out the best way to cope with it now.

@tuesdayafternoon: If I had the time to make up the course-work or it was even possible I would do it. Unfortunately, after I decided to let let 2nd quarter go (so that it wouldn’t ruin 3rd/4th quarteR), my 2nd quarter grades were set in stone. I’m kind of kicking myself over that decision now since I know that if I’d worked hard I could have done it, but at the time it didn’t register with me that I could potentially be ruining my college chances.

@duper: True, very true…That said, I made this username years ago, and I just use it for everything non-official up through today.

damn… i hope you like community college because that’s where you’re headed for the moment.

^ nice encouragement
OP…get the doctor involved…if you have medical reason, you might be able to work something out.

Where were parents or guardians when you were home sick? Didn’t they talk with the school about you missing the work? Weren’t they contacted by the administration/health office about your absences? Doesn’t your school have a policy regarding the maximum number of days you can miss? I have a feeling there is more to this story than you are revealing.

The worst case scenario is that you go to a community college for two years and then transfer to finish out your last two years at a 4 year college.

@nysmile: Truth be told, there isn’t really anything more to the story than what I’m “revealing”. My parents both hold their own jobs and told me it was my job to get the work that I missed. I got some of it, but all of the tests, group projects, etc. all went in as zeros when I cut the quarter off. The school did nothing more than call home each day I was absent merely informing the household that I was, indeed, absent. As for whether there’s a maximum number of days I can miss, I’m sure there is, and that was actually my #1 concern before it dawned on me that I might get my offer of admission from PSU rescinded for my grades. I guess the situation seems odd since it seems like a lot of people just “let this happen” and didn’t do anything about it, but unfortunately that’s really the way it played out.

Everyone here is really overdramatic.

If you have a doctors note and need to explain yourself, you have a reason. But it might not even get that far - if you can pull off an 2.5+ avg for the year, it’s probably fine - PSU is such a huge school, think of all the applicants they have to check grades for at the end of the year. There’s bound to be worse cases of “senioritis” (although I know your case was a bit different) than yours.

Don’t worry: PSU will never see those grades. Your school has to send final grades . They will only see final grades. Unless you end up with a bunch of F’s as final grades you shoudn’t have a problem.

get on a 504 plan immediately

Maybe if you work on boosting up those final grades they won’t rescind you. They’ll probably look at the level of your classes and show you mercy.

So a little update, I e-mailed PSU and this is the response I got:

“We will not request your senior grades. At the end of the year we will ask your school to verify that you graduated. They will also let us know if you failed a course. As long as your grades don’t keep you from graduating, they will not affect your offer of admission to University Park. But do try to do the best you can!”

Looks like I got lucky. Thanks everyone for your support. I’ll be sure to take advantage of this luckiness and do my best the rest of this year.

Good news. Keep learning, and have a good time at college next year.

That’s good to hear, gutter. :)

That’s great news, gutter. Best of luck at PSU next year! :)

That sounds more reasonable for a school like Penn State. Keep in mind that most people who answer questions on this site are guessing and most of the time there guesses are wrong.

True that, and something to keep in mind when reading threads.

Benny1 is right – you have to take the advice here with a grain of salt. Some of it is really good, and this site is very informative, but a lot (most?) of the posters are other high-strung high school students who are very afraid of getting their admissions rescinded! It happens very infrequently, my friends.

Anyway, congratulations, and have lots of fun at Penn State next year!

There is always a glimpse of hope and colleges also like to see improvement after medical conditions, take it after me
