2nd Semester AP Chemistry?

Hey, this may be a stupid question, but here goes.

I was not well advised my junior year when I needed to take a chemistry course, so I wound up stuck in General Chemistry for the whole year. I aced the class in my sleep.

I didn't have enough room on my schedule for an extra science course this semester, but I may next semester. Is it in anyway possible to jump in at the 2nd semester of AP Chem with the background I have?

I highly doubt your school would allow you to do that. And even if they did, it sounds like a bad idea.

I know that in my AP chem class this past term we’ve learned a ton that was not in our honors course last year. You might want to ask the teacher.

Thanks for your responses. I was pretty sure that AP Chem was always intended as a year-long course.

I forgot to mention that I tried to self study for it last year, but I started too late and backed out of the test about a week before. The point is I’m fairly familiar with a lot of the stuff that is talked about in AP Chem.

But I might just need to let it go and acknowledge the missed opportunity. Any more thoughts?

If you can, and others think so too, go for it. Considering you’ve got a lot of background in it already, you should be alright, as long as you put in extra work now.

I guess you don’t have anything to lose by asking your counselor if you can make the switch. I give a poor chance of being able to get into it though. It would look kinda weird on your transcript having general chemistry followed up by ap chemistry I don’t think your school can actually do that.

I thought it might be possible, because it’s perfectly normal for students at my school to take the second semester of BC Calc if they’ve had AB Calc already. We have kind of a college-like schedule setup where courses go by semesters, and there are lots of one semester courses.

Anyway, I feel like I might be able to catch up if I put a lot of effort into it. That is, if I’m not underestimating how much AP Chem covers in a semester. shrug Bottom line I guess is just to ask my advisor.
