I noticed that at least on the common app mid year report, theres only room for 1st semester grades.. i know colleges will see your final semester two marks after they've admitted you... but do they matter at all in the decision process?

keep B's and you should be fine.

ya but i want to know if they'll play a part in the decision process. i know i can maintain A's (90%+)

they won't play a part... because the decision is made before end of senior year.

I know some schools will withdraw your acceptance if your grades drop significantly during 2nd semester. Also, my friend got a scholarship to a top school but with a provision that she maintain her grades throughout the whole year.

But they obviously don't play a part in the initial decision making, unless adcoms suddenly discover the power of seeing into the future.

will they see interm grades? my counselor was talking about sending the midyear reports on like march 15... which is WAYYY far into the future, i think. although i'll try to get her to send them before then

i have that same question. can they see pending grades or call individual teachers

in short, yes they matter. As much as I wish they didn't they do. And the drop from straight A's to straight B's can be enough to be unaccepted at top schools such as HYPSM, etc...

no it cant

seconded (10 char)

can pending grades be checked? (i.e. in the middle of 3rd marking period)

NOooo...they better not check my pending grades. Why would they do that????

"no it can't"

it's happened. One of my friends last year had an A avg, and got unaccepted from Yale after he dropped to a B avg.

B average as in straight Bs or B average as in he got an A in Art, computer applications, and yearbook to go with Ds in AP Calc and AP English, and it all averaged to a GPA above 80?

would it hurt me at lower tier schools (IU, boulder) if my grades dropped to c-average level?

Whoa I must get good grades then.
